[h=3]1 Peter 5:1-2[/h]King James Version (KJV)
5 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
EasyEnglish Bible Translation
v1 Now I want to say something strongly to the elders (leaders) who belong to your group. I say this because I am an elder also. I saw the trouble and pain that people caused Christ. And, like you, I will live always with Christ, who is so very great and powerful. When he comes again, everyone will see how great he is. I say this strongly to you. v2 Watch over the group of God’s people that God has given to you. Be like a *shepherd to them. Do this work because you want to do it. That is how God wants you to be. Do not do it just because you have to do it. Do not do this work because you want to receive money. Instead, do it because you want to help people.

1 The elders in this scripture refer to anyone who sawChrist while He was on earth, the apostles or disciples. Peter was sendingencouragement for them to follow of God’s will. Peter knew what Christ wentthrough even though he hid during the crucifixion. Peter was a witness to theresurrection. Peter knew first hand what Jesus had done and been thru. Peterknew truth by seeing it happen.

2 The elders of the church were to spread not physical foodbut the bread of life, the gospel. The flock was anyone who followed Jesus, thechurch. There responsibility was to make sure the church was doing what thechurch needed to do, it was there responsibility to go to a person if they werenot living up to God’s word and talk to them and help them. Elders should bewilling to what they are needed to. To many times those that follow Jesus arenot only motivated by Him they also this or that to do what the Lord wants ofthem, we should not be this way. The example of the elders Peter gives shouldbe something we tries to live up to as believers as well.
