1 Peter 1:21-22

King James Version (KJV)

21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

21 It is by Jesus that we are able to have faith in theFather and gain His grace and mercy. Jesus is our hope. Jesus rose from thedead and we are to rise from the dead as well, by His power. Our faith is inHim not in ourselves or anyone else.

22 We are made pure by His blood and walk in this purenessby following Him, our Lord. When we are pure it will show by us obeying thetruth which is His word and truth. The word was given thru Spirit to men whowrote it down. We are to love one another. We are to love and have a pure lovethis kind of love only comes thru knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior and having apersonal relationship with Him.

Hi clark thompson.

The NIV Bible renders 1 Peter 1:21, 22, as "Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God. 22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart."

Verse 21, The raising of Jesus by God is the special ground of our "faith and hope in God". The fact that God raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory is the foundation for our faith and hope for two reasons. Firstly, through Christ's resurrection and glorification, God openly declares that he has accepted Christ as our righteous substitute, thereby giving us access to God. Secondly; through Christ's resurrection and glorification, believers can receive power from the holy spirit. Because we could not receive the holy spirit, until Jesus had gone to heaven. (John 16:5-15) This is very significant in order to carry out the counsel in the next verse.

Verse 22, As we are born in sin, humans by themselves cannot purify ourselves of the works of the flesh. (Galatians 5:19-21) But in order to continually walk by the spirit, (Galatians 5:22, 23) we need the holy spirit's help. This would not be available if God had not raise Jesus from the dead and seated him at God's right hand, as mentioned in Acts 7:55, 56. But now that we have the help of the holy spirit to purify ourselves from the works of the flesh, we can also use the holy spirit to sincerely love even our enemies from our hearts. Not merely outward appearance of love which is fake, but sincere love for Christian brothers and sisters. Despite our differences and disagreements, we can have sincere love for one another, we can learn to love each other intensely through the help of the holy spirit. (John 13:34-35).
