The Kingdom of God began on earth, Eden, this is God’s original plan and he’s going to stick to it. The nations were disinherited and to have the reversal, to have the nations reclaimed and to have the Kingdom of God be what God originally intended it to be, that has to happen on the earth. It’s not an abstract thing we call the church, even though the church is the Kingdom, but the church is not yet the Kingdom. It is, but it isn’t the Kingdom.

The millennium, when this thing happens, when we have the second coming and we have this brought to an end, it will be on this earth and the Lord will be here and the nations will be reclaimed and they will be the nations that we are familiar with. It will be this planet, this globe. There will be believers given resurrection bodies. You will have human beings, redeemed. Glorified human beings on a new earth, which is called heaven, because this will be the place where God dwells and this will be the place where we dwell with God.

This will be the place where God’s divine agents, the divine beings who are loyal to him, they’re here too. It is Eden globalized. The end goal is to have a planetary wide Eden. God’s initial intention with Adam and Eve, Eden was a confined area. God knew they would mess up, he’s fine with the risk that this is going to happen, but because he knows that he’s going to stick to the plan. He knows he will get his way in the end, not by eradicating free will or eradicating humans.

Eden was not planet Earth, because Eden has a specific geography, it’s a tiny little piece of the Earth. It’s perfectly understandable why God says be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. God wants Adam and Eve to have kids and to make the rest of the planet Earth, Eden. We’re starting here in this garden, because this is where I put you, but it’s a big place, you’re going to need more than just you two. I want you to extend the wonder of this place everywhere. This is your mission to expand Eden all over the Earth. That fails pretty quickly, but it’s not a coincidence that at the end, the entire Earth is described in Edenic terms at the end of the book of revelation.

God is sticking with the plan, it’s the plan he wants, and he wants people to be not only there at the end, but he wants them to participate in carrying the plan through, this was the intention. We are here to enjoy and steward and take care of the entire Earth. In a new Edenic state, we will have relationships with each other. There will be organized things to do. There’s going to be hierarchical relationships, the levels of administration aren’t always going to be the same, but it’s going to work in complete harmony. We all are going to enjoy what we do. We are in God’s presence, it’s just what Eden was supposed to be. This is actually the scriptural vision of heaven.

American dispensationalism, with the idea of the rapture has actually turned the idea of Jesus’ second coming into it’s opposite in the New Testament. The second coming is not Jesus coming back to scoop up some people and take them off to heaven with him. In the second coming passages in the New Testament, Jesus is coming back to rule and reign and transform the world and make it over a new, new heavens and new earth. There’s a couple of verses in the New Testament which instead of talking about Jesus coming, talk about Jesus appearing. Colossians chapter 1 and 3, John chapter 3. What does it mean appearing rather than coming? Heaven is God’s space, and God’s space is supposed to be eventually integrated with our space called earth. It’s is as though there is a great curtain hanging down through the middle of ordinary reality. Jesus is not far way, it’s just that he’s currently invisible. But one day the curtain will be pulled back, and it won’t be like coming, it’ll be like appearing. That’s as good a picture of the idea of him coming.

Gen 1:28
“God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.’”

Not just Eden.

Then eventually there will be a new heaven and earth. Jesus and the Father will reside in the New Jerusalem.
The saints will abide with them forever.
