The Amplified Study Bible is a full bible like most others, and has notes at the bottom of each page (which I seldom read ... perhaps I should too, as I am on this forum and getting different views from different people : )

And it is in essence saying the Lord is delaying His coming.

Jesus places the gathering of the elect (the rapture) after the tribulation, not before.

Nowhere does this scripture say the angels are gathering together of his elec to heaven. It is the gathering together for Judgement as it says here.

Mat 25:31 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.

I would think it makes no difference what his private interpretation said.
