Creating and maintaining the universe is no challenge to our infinite, almighty God. A familiar passage from Isaiah emphasizes the Lord’s strength and stamina: “Do you not know? Have you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth. He never grows faint or weary” (Isaiah 40:28).
So why does the book of Judges say God can be wearied?
Reread today’s scripture and watch carefully for what wearies the Lord: it’s the misery of His people. In the time of the judges, that misery was self-inflicted, due entirely to Israel’s idolatry and rebellion. But as soon as the people admitted their guilt and changed their ways, God admitted His pain and changed His people’s fortunes.
If you are in Christ, God the Father loves you with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3). Even when you sin, He longs for you to return to His side. And as soon as you make the first move, He rushes to welcome you back. God is never weary to forgive and restore.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, it’s amazing to realize that my misery wearies You. May I always avoid sin so that neither of us needs to suffer.
