The next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began to contradict what was spoken by Paul, reviling him. Acts 13:44-45 ESV
People attended a conference for the curious. They came from throughout the region to satisfy their interest in the message about Jesus. They wanted to hear more. There were those with no faith, those with some faith, and still others living in open hostility to the message. It was the hostile among the crowd who made comments that sought to discredit the truth Paul shared. They contradicted the message and ridiculed the one delivering it.
There have always been people who seek to derail God’s message. They have thought about the message and entertain the notion that there are flaws. They tend to think of the message in terms of human logic or through the lens of their own past. They consider the message based on old information instead of new thinking and a new heart.
You might have faced a similar struggle when you first heard about Jesus. It’s not hard to believe that some of the message is hard to accept when you think it contradicts what you were taught, what you have believed, and what you considered truth.
Prayer: Your message can challenge what I think, God. Give me the courage to accept with my whole heart what You have called truth.
