"Also it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book, from [the one] before the priests, the Levites. "And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes, Deuteronomy 17:18-19 NKJV
How can you best prepare yourself to obey God and to live a holy life? When Moses charted the course for the rulers of God’s people after leading them out of slavery in Egypt, he required them to have a copy of God’s teachings and laws on hand to read them often. That’s because our minds can be distracted. Misdirected, and disobedient when left on their own without a daily reminder of God’s teachings.
The Passover festival also serves as a kind of acted-out reminder of what God has done for His people. The Lord told Moses to institute this annual festival so that they wouldn’t place their trust in their own wisdom and power.
Thankfully, you don’t have to make your own copy of God’s Word! You need only take it with you each day and set aside time to renew your heart and mind in the ways of God.
