I believe this is the fourth year running that I’ve gone with posting Daily Devotionals from the Daily Wisdom books. Normally I would give credit to each writer on each devotional if they noted who actually wrote them! It’s a mix of different writers, and I can say they have been a blessing to me, and is the reason I share them here with you. Praying that they also may bless you in opening up God’s Word as a consideration for growth in your life throughout each day and the upcoming year.

God bless you as each day brings us closer to our first love’s return!

With the Love of Christ Jesus.

January 1

Not so the wicked [those disobedient and living without God are not so]. But they are like the chaff [worthless, dead, without substance] which the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked [those disobedient and living without God] shall not stand [justified] in the judgment, nor [a]sinners in the congregation of the righteous [those who are upright and in right standing with God]. Psalm 1:4-5 AMPC

There’s potential in a new year and a sense of relief at the universal dawning of the second chance. Maybe this was just the place and condition King David found himself in when talking to others. He spoke words of life to people he knew were trying their best to follow God.

Decisions must have been made in advance that made it less difficult to obey God. King David must have recognized this choice in his unnamed friends. Their actions prevented them from being like chaff, accused men people without a defense lawyer, or those easily thought of as bad company.

These were choices other people made, and the result was less than desired.

You have choices to make going into a new year. Sure, start with the kind of predecided choices that keep sin choices at a distance, but also find people who will encourage better choices. Finally, keep a strong connection to the God who does not make wrong choices. Start there and allow the best sense of community to move you from where you are to where God wants you to be.

Prayer: Lord, I resolve to follow and to turn back to You as often as I need to. Walk with me and turn me around when my heart begins to wander.
