Lucifer was never the original name for Lucifer. The scripture below is addressing a rather pompous & boastful king who will die and his corpse will not be buried for his evil self boasting.

Isaiah 14:11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.
12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: KJV

FYI Lucifer is a Latin reference to Venus originally taken from the Latin Vulgate.

You can see other Bible versions not having "Lucifer" as mentioned in its version as comparing to the KJV which proves this is a false teaching that Lucifer was the original name of Satan & people just read & applied that verse wrong from the KJV.

Isaiah 14:11-13 KJV & NLT & NIV & ESV & NASB

In spite of this common misconception and this falsehood spearing thru out Christianity, it is also an error in Freemasonry & Satanism as well. Go figure.

You need to add Isaiah14:16 to confirm it. 16-They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, IS THIS THE MAN that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

It speaks for itself IMO. Not that the name matters, but the verse references a MAN.

Thanks for the addition. Hopefully if any parent named their child Lucifer, they can reference this thread in this Talk Jesus forum for correction on those who give parents a hard time for naming their child Lucifer.

Dear GodB4Us,
I'm sure what you say, will help the child immensely who is named Lucifer.
Plus, what do you think was the intent of the parent who named their child Lucifer and was unaware of its origin? Or, that all they knew was that it was attributed to an OT naming of Satan, and still went ahead and named the child "Lucifer" even though in error?

Lucifer

Old English Lucifer "Satan," also "morning star, Venus in the morning sky before sunrise," also an epithet or name of Diana, from Latin Lucifer "morning star," noun use of adjective, literally "light-bringing," from lux (genitive lucis) "light" (from PIE root *leuk- "light, brightness") + ferre "to carry, bear," from PIE root *bher- (1) "to carry," also "to bear children." Venus in the evening sky was Hesperus.
Belief that it was the proper name of Satan began with its use in Bible to translate Greek Phosphoros, which translates Hebrew Helel ben Shahar in Isaiah xiv.12 — "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!" [KJV] Because of the mention of a fall from Heaven, the verse was interpreted spiritually by Christians as a reference to Satan, even though it is literally a reference to the King of Babylon (see Isaiah xiv.4). Sometimes rendered daystar in later translations.
As "friction match," 1831, short for Lucifer match (1831). Among the 16c. adjectival forms were Luciferian, Luciferine, Luciferous. There was a noted Bishop Lucifer of Cagliari in Sardinia in the 4th century, a strict anti-Arian regarded locally as a saint.

For better or for worse I personally, I would not put such a burden on a child.

Well, in hindsight, for whatever the reason, the dictionary's and people's reference to Lucifer being Satan's original name is not actually Biblical and so no one should be ashamed.

Even if they intended for that naming to be after Satan, they can always change it to Satan to remove all doubt. Pretty sure the parents will regret it then. The child can always change his or her name & lean on Jesus for the help and love they need to forgive them for they know not what they do, rather than hold a grudge and live up to that awful name in making the parents regret it.

Dear GodB4Us,
I guess the same for other notorious names of personages that meant something else until evil done by them made the name synonymous with their actions. Always in hindsight, we want to believe we'd do better in the naming.

I don't recall ever seeing anyone on Talk Jesus take on the challenge of Biblical names. I'm wondering if you'd be interested in maybe doing a bread down/significance of Biblical names?
Anyway, it's a thought that came to me, and I'd pass it on to you.

Dear Nick,

Interesting thought.

One has to wonder of the origin of Biblical names before it got its current meaning. Say for example; Mary which is bitter, sea of bitterness, being the mother of Jesus. Mary being the alternate form of Mariam, makes one ponder if Mary had not become the name from being a nickname of Mariam, but I would think Mariam was the name given to Mary, the mother of Jesus, as a reference from an older relative or ancestor as the usual practice generally is when naming children.

Rachel means female sheep. It is odd that I am always referring to the name as weeping for her children. Probably a Biblical verse if I am not mistaken. Checked it.

Matthew 2:17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, 18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

Jeremiah 31:15 Thus saith the Lord; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.

Interesting subject; not sure where to go with this though. There are Baby Name books with meanings. Some may be found different in other books in having meaning, probably due to ethnic background.

Here is a link to 11 Biblical names and its significance in meaning.

I am done with the topic for this thread regarding the origin of Lucifer and so if others wish to expound on it towards Biblical names, it is fine by me.
