For as the heavens are high above the earth, [So] great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; As far as the east is from the west, [So] far has He removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:12 NKJV
Perhaps nothing keeps a man of God from living an unshakable life of faith more than guilt—guilt over the things he has done and things he has failed to do. He may have confessed his sin and turned completely away from it, yet he suffers under oppressive guilt and an underlying fear that God still holds his misdeeds against him.
Today’s scripture passage shows the completeness of God’s forgiveness. Focus for a minute on the words “as far as the east is from the west” and then consider this: If you were to start at the northernmost spot on the globe and begin traveling south, eventually you would be traveling north. However, if you were to begin traveling east from any point on earth, you would continue traveling east an infinite distance.
The Bible says that when you confess your sins, God removes your sins from you and casts them far away—infinitely far away.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your willingness to forgive me completely when I confess my sins to You. Help me to learn from my mistakes and bad decisions but never to dwell in guilt or regret over sins You’ve already forgiven and forgotten.
