Therefore you shall love the LORD your God, and keep His charge, His statutes, His judgments, and His commandments always. Deuteronomy 11:1 NKJV

Today’s scripture verse tells us much about the kind of relationship God wants with His people—one based on mutual love.

God wants you to love Him, and He wants that love to motivate you to live in a way that pleases Him. It really is that simple!

The fact that God commanded Israel to love Him says something about the nature of the Christian man’s love for the Lord—namely, that loving God isn’t a matter of feelings or emotions but of choice. You can’t always trust your feelings, but you can choose to hold fast to your commitment to God.

You can do all kinds of things that God says to do in the Bible, but it doesn’t mean anything if loves isn’t your primary motivation. God loves you, and He wants everything you do to come as a result of your love for Him.

When you try to obey God’s commands just because you think it’s the right thing to do or because you’re afraid of the consequences of disobedience, then you’re headed for failure. But when you choose first to love God, you’ll find that obedience becomes your second nature.

Prayer: Father, thank You that I can have a relationship with You based on love. Help me to live the life You want me to live because I love You.

1 John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

John 6:28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

Romans 8
:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

I believe that by believing in Jesus Christ for all things, we may find ourselves enabled by Him to even love our enemies, whereas before we could not see it in our selves to do.

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. 19 We love him, because he first loved us.

I may be free to make a choice, but there is no power in my flesh or in my will to carry it out, but fortunately I believe His words that by believing in Him, He will continue His work in me so I can follow Him by faith alone and that is how by Him, I keep His commandments by the same grace of God I am saved by.

John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. 15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. 16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Here is my faith in Him to do in how He helps me to follow Him.

1 John 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure..... 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:.... 11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

Hebrews 12:1
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

2 Timothy 4:18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
