"All the days of his vow of separation, no razor shall touch his head. Until the time is completed for which he separates himself to the LORD, he shall be holy. He shall let the locks of hair of his head grow long. Numbers 6:5 ESV
A Nazirite was someone who consecrated himself to the Lord to be used for a special purpose. Most Nazirite vows were temporary. The only lifelong Nazirites recorded in the Bible were Samson, Samuel, and John the Baptist.
Nazirites couldn’t cut their hair, couldn’t eat any products made from grapes, and had to avoid contact with dead bodies. For Nazirites, long hair was a public display of their dedication to God.
In a similar way, Jesus has set you as a believer aside for a special purpose.
First Peter 1:14-16 (ESV) says, “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy.’”
Regardless of your hair length, can others see how the Lord has set you apart? Does your conduct display your dedication to God? Are you avoiding contact with the sins Jesus put to death on the cross?
God is calling you to be holy so others will see the difference and praise Him for His works.
Prayer: Lord, may my consecration be obvious.
