I would say that many of us who profess to be Christians forget that Children of God will overcome.
What is it that the Bible promises that we will overcome?

It seems like in many pulpits we preach a lot about love and Jesus and doctrine, but many do not preach that being a child of God means you will overcome.
Many do not preach that you will have the victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil.

I rarely hear people preach about how being a Christian is not just about love and believing in Jesus, but overcoming
addiction, depression, lust, anger issues, gambling, pornography, being a liar, covetousness, etc, etc, etc.

We should remember that Jesus did not just come to save us from the penalty of sin(dead/hell) but
Jesus also came to save us from the power of sin, so that we will overcome in this world.

He didn't just tell the women caught in adultery that He didn't condemn her, but he told her to go and sin no more.

(1) Do you believe that being a child of God means having the victory and overcoming,
(2) and if so, what is it that you think we are to overcome? and what does that look like in your life?

God's Truth said:

The first book in the Bible tells us who and what Israel is.

Genesis 32:28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome.”


Did you see that? The one who struggles with God and with men and overcomes that is who Israel is.

And Jesus in the last book of the Bible confirms this message. See the many scriptures in Revelation about what the one who overcomes.

Revelation 2:7 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.
Revelation 2:11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death.
Revelation 2:17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it.

1 John 5:5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.


Therefore, who and what is Israel—Israel is people who overcome by faith in Jesus Christ.
Just as Jacob is called Israel by overcoming, we too are Israel by overcoming by faith in Jesus.
