Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 ESV
When a potter makes a jar, two important things happen to the clay. First, it is shaped. Second, it is hardened. Only after clay is hardened does it become waterproof and useful as a vessel.

Isaiah 64:8 (ESV) says “But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter, we are all the work of your hand.”
In his letter to the Romans, the apostle Paul warns his readers that the world will try to change the clay of our identities to fit its mold. If we want to be useful vessels for God, we need to be more than conformed—we need to be fundamentally changed by the fire of God’s influence. Though the process of transformation will be painful to our selfish desires, it will make us useful for God’s plans.
If you feel like you are in the fire today, thank God for transforming you into someone who will be more useful for His purposes.
Prayer: Lord, I am clay in Your hands. Shape me into a useful vessel. Keep me from conforming to the world’s mold. Help me endure through the fire to be good and acceptable and perfect for You.
