[It is] better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in man. [It is] better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in princes. Psalm 118:8-9 NKJV
If someone were to ask you how trustworthy you are on a scale of 1 to 100, how would you answer? If we’re being honest, even those of us who consider ourselves generally trustworthy and dependable know we can’t rate ourselves at 100, or even 99 or 98. That’s simply because we’re all fallen humans and therefore prone to failing other people from time to time.
This is why the writer of Psalm 118 asserted that it is better to trust in God than any human. While we all fail our friends and loved ones from time to time, and while others will certainly fail us occasionally, we never need to question God’s trustworthiness or dependability—even in the most difficult of times.
Trustworthy loved ones and dependable friends are blessings from God, and we should express our gratitude for them. But we must always remember that He and He alone is worthy of our complete, unwavering trust.
Prayer: God in heaven, You’ve given me some wonderful friends—men who have earned my trust in many ways over the years. But help me to never forget that I have only one friend I can trust 100 percent of the time in 100 percent of all circumstances. That friend is You.
