Then a wise woman cried out from the city, "Hear, hear! Please say to Joab, 'Come nearby, that I may speak with you.' " 2 Samuel 20:16 NKJV

At almost every turn throughout the Bible, the Lord features outstanding women, including women of exceptional intelligence and wisdom.

Today’s Bible reading is no exception. The story takes place in the distinguished city of Abel, known for its wise men and women. Not surprisingly, 2 Samuel 20:16-22 begins and ends by calling the hero a wise woman, that is, a woman who speaks and acts wisely.

Unlike God and His Word, men down through the ages have disparaged the intelligence of women. Actually, men have disparaged women in every way possible. It’s abhorrent and appalling, disgusting and evil, foul and gross, hideous and horrendous, nasty and noxious, obnoxious and obscene, odious and offensive, rancid and repugnant, repulsive and revolting, shameful and sickening.

No man with a high view of the Lord God, maker of heaven and earth, can have a low view of God’s final creation, woman. The Lord called her “very good” in every way. That doesn’t mean women are superior to men, but in no way are they inferior.

Prayer: Lord, You want me to change my view of women. I hear that loud and clear.

Man and woman are equal and complimentary in the eyes of God, each with correspinding roles and responsibilities. Woman is not, nor has she ever been, inferior to man. But for man's wickedness (which includes woman's wickedness), which has caused all of humanity the pain and suffering of subjugation, the blended beauty of man and woman harmoniously endeavoring to be that which God purposed them to be has never been fully realized.
