GOD THE POTTER

A lump of clay in the right hands can be formed into something useful and/or decorative. God wants to use us as a potter uses clay, molding us for his purposes, but once clay has set and become hard it is unworkable. Clay that remains soft and pliable can be re-worked to correct mistakes, or just as important, to create a new shape. But just as clay needs to be kept continually moist in order to be worked and shaped so to do we as God’s people need to be kept ‘moist’ and malleable so that God can shape us into his plan for us. We should not let ourselves become ‘dry’ or ‘hard-baked’ but remain pliable in God’s hands by drinking the water of life daily.

God wants to use us as a potter uses clay; but once clay has set and become hard it is unworkable. Clay that remains soft and pliable can be re-worked, to correct mistakes, or just as important, to create a new shape.

As God’s people it is important to keep ourselves ‘pliable’ by listening to, and reading his word daily. We should not let ourselves become ‘dry’ or ‘hard-baked’ but we should drink the water of life daily.

Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use? - Romans 9:21

So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. Then the word of the LORD came to me: 6 “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?” declares the LORD. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. - Jeremiah 18:3-6 (NIV)

One of the best ways IMO to stay pliable is to be open to what the Holy Spirit tells you.
