The Bible uses a word called "age". It means a given time-frame. The Bible talks a lot about "the age to come" or the next age.
Dan 12:13; "But as for you, go your way to the end; then you will enter into rest and rise again for your allotted portion at the end of the age."
Matt 12:32; "Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.
Matt 13:39; and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels.
Matt 13:40; "So just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age.
Matt 13:49; "So it will be at the end of the age; the angels will come forth and take out the wicked from among the righteous,
Matt 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Mark 10:30 but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life.
Luke 18:30; who will not receive many times as much at this time and in the age to come, eternal life."
Luke 20:35 but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage;
Eph 1:21; far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.
Tit 2:12; instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,
Heb 6:5; and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,
Dan 2:21; "It is He who changes the times and the epochs; He removes kings and establishes kings; He gives wisdom to wise men And knowledge to men of understanding.
Acts 1:7; He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority;
1Thes 5:1; Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you.
So since an age has to do with time, how long is an age? The short answer is.. I don't know. It's until the next age comes about. The Bible mentions the present age, and the age to come.
In Matthew 24, the disciples ask Jesus...
Matt 24:3; As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?"
What are the signs of the end of the age... Apparently the will be another "age".. something the defines a new and different time. One of the things this verse mentions is "the signs of your coming".
So it appears the second coming of Jesus is the main thing that will define the next or "the age to come". Obviously Jesus was there talking to them when they asked this question, so they were talking
about Him coming back at another time.
1Cor 15:23; But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ's at His coming,
1Cor 15:24; then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power.
1Cor 15:25; For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.
1Cor 15:26; The last enemy that will be abolished is death.
One of the things that will happen, is Jesus will hand the kingdom back to the Father. But even death will be abolished before that happens.
Death is still here, so this hasn't happened yet.
Rev 7:15; "For this reason, they are before the throne of God; and they serve Him day and night in His temple; and He who sits on the throne will spread His tabernacle over them.
Rev 7:16; "They will hunger no longer, nor thirst anymore; nor will the sun beat down on them, nor any heat;
Rev 7:17; for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe every tear from their eyes."
There will be no hunger, and no more thirst for the saints. The sun will not beat beat down upon the saints at this time. Obviously Christians all over the world are in places
with famine and hunger, and hot desert places where the sun shines down upon them. So it appears this hasn't happened yet either.
These are things for the next age.
