throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God--truly righteous and holy. Ephesians 4:22-24 NLT
God did not say, “Take off your favorite sin garment, fold it, and store it away for now. You might need it again.” His idea was to radically throw a former way of life as far away as possible. He had no intention of seeing you return to sin and pick up where you left off. Instead, He said this old life was corrupted by deception and selfish desire.
God’s antidote is a new nature complete with new thinking and new actions. More importantly, He did not want you to teach yourself about this new life. He gave you His Spirit and that Spirit can help breathe new ways of thinking into your mind, new attitudes in your actions, and new hope into your soul.
God has given you a new nature. Wear it proudly. You represent the King of all kings. His character looks good on you.
Prayer: Dear God, why is it so easy for me to keep pieces of my past so close? They tempt me to turn from Your new life and return to the very things I was happy to escape. I don’t want to wear new-life clothes and speak old-life words.
