In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:13-14 ESV

Game shows offer a consolation prize if contestants don’t win. This gift is offered when there is a failed attempt at winning the game.

God doesn’t offer consolation prizes. If you choose God, you get it all, and if you don’t, you get nothing. When you believe Jesus is the only way, and accept God’s rescue, you will be saved. The benefits? You can expect grace (access to God when you did nothing to earn His interest), mercy (not being punished for something you deserve), forgiveness, and the companionship of God’s Spirit.

You also gain external life with God and a face-to-face relationship with Him in heaven. This inheritance is guaranteed but, just like an earthly inheritance, you will need to wait. When you get all of God, is there any conceivable consolation prize that would make life worth living without Him?

Prayer: Dear God, when I believe and accept everything that’s true about Your Son, my today is changed. Because You forgive, my yesterday is changed. Because You offer eternity with You, my tomorrow is changed. You offer change because You don’t want to leave me the way You found me. Thanks for caring about my every day.

I would stand to show you more on the subject of receiving a consolation prize for winning the race.

See, win, or lose, is not the prize already made clear and given to us while we run in this race? If I value the gift of immortal (never ending) life, what would I have to do for an eternity except what I had done while running the race?

Reaching for the virtue of virtue--being outstanding in character. Who can find a person that is a righteous person who does not practice righteousness? Who can find a righteous person that practices righteousness and doesn't love doing it? Indeed, the real question here is where does our joy come from? If I receive joy for good works, and I continue in good works, I have no reason to be concerned about losing the race. ;)

Job 29:13
The one who was dying blessed me; I made the widow's heart sing.

God bless
