Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness." So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. 2 Corinthians 12:8-9 NLT
Any strength that you have becomes a liability compared to the strength and support that God provides. The risk is that you may make the crucial error of relying on your strength, wisdom, and experience to accomplish things. However, your own power will eventually let you down or lead you astray. God’s wisdom and strength is far more reliable and enduring.
This is why Paul is so insistent on boasting of his weaknesses. Anything that reveals his need for God and his own inadequacy is a plus for him.
In what ways could you say that you are weak or struggling to follow the teachings of Jesus? Are there parts of your life that you struggle to confess your weaknesses and to rely fully on God’s power.
You can find strength in the place where you thought you were least likely to look for it.
Prayer: Jesus, may I humbly confess my weaknesses and failures to You today so that I can fully rely on You and Your power as my source of strength.
