Out of the north comes golden splendor; God is clothed with awesome majesty. The Almighty--we cannot find him; he is great in power; justice and abundant righteousness he will not violate. Therefore men fear him; he does not regard any who are wise in their own conceit." Job 37:22-24 ESV
The simple acts of observing and appreciating the majesty and power of nature can work wonders for your faith and add a healthy dose of realism to your self-assessment. Those who think of God as smaller and less powerful—while imagining they are in control and worthy of greater honor and praise—will struggle with insecurity and fear about the future.
The proper response to God’s power, which surpasses the grasp of the human mind, is a reason for respectful worship and awe, fearing that God could do away with anyone who violates His commands. You stand alone on God’s mercy and hope that all people will come to a saving knowledge of Him.
Your own wisdom and accomplishments don’t stack up well against God’s. The best thing you can do today is to step outside for a moment, admire the brilliance of the sun in the sky, and recall that this is only a small demonstration of God’s infinite and eternal power.
Prayer: Lord, may I see Your power and mercy with clarity so that I never think too highly of myself.
