A Slippery Slope

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God or consider Him worth knowing [as their Creator], God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do things which are improper and repulsive, 29 until they were filled (permeated, saturated) with every kind of unrighteousness Romans 1:28-29 AMPC

God made Himself known to humankind. Because they didn’t honor and glorify Him, or even give Him thanks (Romans 1:21), He gave them over to their baser desires. Romans contains a long list of such sins, including unnatural sexual relations, greed, malice, envy, jealousy, strife, deceit, gossip, and treachery (1:26-29).

This is what the life of the unregenerate person looks like. But if you aren’t careful, your life can look like this too, since sin is a slippery slope. One glance can lead in flirting. A seemingly harmless conversation over lunch with a colleague can lead to gossip or spread strife. You are called to a different life—one that offers life and truth.

Run back through that list of sins this morning and determine which sins you are guilty of. Confess your guilt to God. The next time you catch yourself leaning in the direction of one of those sins, call on the Lord for the Holy Spirit to enable you to resist.

Prayer: Lord, I see myself in several of the sins listed Romans 1. I repent, knowing they do not honor or glorify You. Empower me from on high to live a life that truly reflects Your character.

Hey, Christ4ever; the way you describe it, forget about resisting, you make a person want to Run First, then resist and repent, while you are running! And not to, but from! And do not look back, because if you look back you might stumble and fall! And the one, you are running from, might be following you and when you fall from looking back, they might be close enough to resuscitate you by "Mouth to mouth" resuscitation followed by "chest compressions". So do not look back! You do not need "First Aid" from the one you are running from. Just in case someone do not understand the " Biblical language" quite yet.

Hi Christ4ever,
So humankind didn't honour the God they didn't know, so he made himself known to them because they didn't honour him, the God they didn't know  Humankind knew God from the beginning; Adam knew him, Cain and Able knew him, Abraham knew him and brought the knowledge of him to the world.

Dear Brother,
Hope all is well with you.
As far as the Devotional, I'm sharing it and I'm not the author of it. Still, to point you to where it does talk of resisting, see below.
The next time you catch yourself leaning in the direction of one of those sins, call on the Lord for the Holy Spirit to enable you to resist.
Keep in mind that this particular devotion is dealing with the review of ones life to see where one might be failing as it pertains to sin. Then a quick what to do about it "Confess", and also the quick how to deal with it when it should rear its head back up.

However, I do agree that space should have been made to the "run first" mindset when temptation is first present. Still, understanding the limitations of a devotional (concise), not all areas of a subject matter are added, and so the point in this devotional has more to do with sinful acts already present in ones life.

Thanks for sharing, your thoughts.
With the Love of Christ Jesus.

Dear Brother Tevor,
Nice to hear from you again.
As to what you have written. You have to pay particular attention to the period after the first sentence " God made Himself known to humankind." Which agrees with what you have stated about Adam, Cain, Able, and Abraham. Then the second sentence begins with drawing attention to the actions of man lacking any acknowledgement to God of who He is and what He's done " Because they didn’t honor and glorify Him, or even give Him thanks....".

Devotionals really aren't good in fleshing out the entirety of a subject, but use a quick bullet here and there on one specific thought to hopefully have one grow from it.

Again, good to hear from you.
With the Love of Christ Jesus.
