WORD OF THE DAY (— Luke 8:25 )
And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.
MEDITATE ON THIS (Unusual times call for an unusual man )
As human beings there are many attributes, abilities, and talents that we exhibit to varying degrees. Some are athletes and can run faster,
jump higher, and lift heavier than others. Others are skillful and can paint brighter, sing louder, and dance more rhythmically than others.
And some can argue more logically, write more descriptively, and calculate with greater computational speed when compared to their peers.
However of all the attributes, abilities, and talents that we have as humans, none can compare to those possessed by Jesus. Jesus truly stands
in a category by Himself.
While Jesus was on the sea of Galilee during a storm with the disciples, something amazingly terrifying happened. There was a great storm which
threatened to capsize the boat. The winds were blowing, the waves were crashing, and the lives of all on the boat seemed threatened. However this was
not the amazingly terrifying act. The disciples called to Jesus in the midst of the storm and He uttered a word to the storm, "Peace be still", and immediately
the waters were still and the barometric measure of the air equalized. One would imagine that the disciples would have jumped for joy that the storm was
commanded to stop and it obeyed, but instead they were filled with even more terror. An amazing terror and reverence for Jesus filled their hearts. Our
verse reads, "And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him."
This ability that Jesus demonstrated, the ability to command nature, was something never before seen.
Storms are governed by atmospheric air currents subject to differences in pressure and temperature. What manner of man could suspend,
manipulate, or interfere with the laws of thermodynamics and aerodynamics with a word? The ocean(Sea of Galilee) waves held within them great inertial momentum
as Newton's Laws of motion tells us that an object in motion would continue in motion until something of equal force or greater acted upon it. What manner of man could transcend
the laws of physics showing to have power greater than all the forces in the vast ocean through a verbal command. This was terrifyingly awesome, uncategorically bewildering,
and undoubtedly divine. The disciples knew that there was something amazing and Holy(different-set apart) about Jesus.
Though the disciples likely had no idea that Jesus would calm the storm, we can applaud them because they did reach out to Him in the midst of the storm. Let us likewise
follow their example and reach out to Jesus during our storms of life. Reach out to Him during your financial storms and let Him speak to your bank account. Reach out to Jesus in the midst
of your health crisis and let Him speak health to the cells in your body. Reach out to Jesus in the midst of your family and relationship problems and let Him speak to the souls of the
difficult people in your life. Unusual times calls for someone who is more than just a mere man. Call on Jesus during your unusual times for He is the Son of God and God the Son.

Thought for the week:
What manner of man can handle the storms of your life? The only one who is God. Jesus.
Prayer for the week:
Dear God thank you for shocking the world with both the awesome truth of your power
and the amazing Grace of your love. You indeed are the only one worthy of worship. Remind me
to know that in every storm of my life, I have Jesus riding along with me in the boat, just waiting
for me to call on Him so that He can utter the words "Peace be still" to my situation. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
