This entire book is talking about the various kings of Israel and then of Judah -- it was a divided kingdom.

chapter 17 is talking about the king of Judah in the 12th year of Ahaz and that Hoshea was in Israel at that time and was reigning nine years. He was an evil king but not as bad as some of the other kings of Israel who were before him.

All the things that were happening in the lands at that time. They were serving idols -- and all the prophets and seers were warning the people about their evil ways but no one would listen.

The people -- Israel left everything Godly and went to worship their own false gods. Then they started to regret what they were doing -- instead of leaving the false gods -- they combined worshiping of God with the false gods.

the chapter finishes by saying that 'to this day, they continue to do Both.

The children of Israel wanted kings like all the surrounding people's had. So they were allowed to. And as we read -- some were Great, God-fearing kings and some were worthless / cruel.

When they had cruel kinds, they cried out to God for help / repentence. But, after a while, they went back to their own ways which were not God's ways.

the Children of Isreal -- God's chosen people -- were rebellious people.

Thank sis, I really do appreciate it very much. I was given this to read and just wanted to understand what God may be trying to say to me or wanting me to say to someone else. Please pray for me. Again, mI very much thankful for the response.

I apologise it was supposed to be 1 Kings not 2nd Kings

Okay -- that would make somewhat of a difference. But , then, again, we're learning about all the various kings that ruled and what happened during their reigns -- good / bad kings. Let's take a look at 1 Kings 17.

This chapter actually starts with 16:29 "In the 38th year of Asa King of Judah / Ahab became king over Israel in Samaria and was there for 22 yrs.

The people continued to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger more than any of the kinds before him. That sounds familiar from 2 Kings.

In this instance - Elijah declared to Ahab that there would be no dew or rain 'these years' except by his command / words. And then the Lord gives him various directions that he follows. The Lord directs him to a widow in Zarephath who would provide for his need of water and bread. The widow tells him that as much as she wished she could provide him with the bread -- she and her son were in the process of using the last of their oil and flour to bake a cake and then die.

But Elijah told her to make him a small cake first and then make some for her son and herself. then vs 14 "For thus says the Lord god of Israel: The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth." So the lady went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days.

vs 16 The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah.

But after that her son became very sick and she was very upset that Now he was going to die After all. In Spite of the man of God saving them the first time -- But Elijah asked for her son and he put him in his arms and took him upstairs and cried out to the Lord asking the same thing of the Lord that his mother had cried out with. Elijah laid down on the boy - body to body - three times and then the Lord brought him back to life.

The boy is brought back down to his mother and showed him that her son Was alive.

then vs 24 "Then the woman said to Elijah, "Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is the truth."

So -- someone told you to read that passage. Now -- what are You understanding in this passage? Please share with me.
