Jesus said, "My friend, go ahead and do what you have come for." Then the others grabbed Jesus and arrested him. Matthew 26:50

Judas may have felt Jesus couldn't be trusted. There were many in first-century Israel who thought the Messiah would be a savior in a political and military sense. Judas may have followed Jesus because he thought Jesus was that Messiah. When Jesus explained that He would die, Judas may have concluded that Jesus wasn't the Messiah and that he'd been misled into following Him.

Judas listened to what Jesus said. But in the end, Jesus' purpose wasn't a match for Judas' ambition. Popular opinion was shifting away from Jesus, and Judas was willing to help the opposition (the religious leaders) find an opportunity to silence Jesus

Judas handed Jesus over at night. Jesus' other disciples fled the arrest scene. It turned out that Judas was the one who couldn't be trusted.

Think about how many people hear the message of love and forgiveness Jesus brought to mankind but are totally unmoved by the Good News. Not every encounter with God results in a life change. Sadly, the promise of forgiveness doesn't always inspire trust.

Prayer: God, may Your Word penetrate deep into the core of who I am so I become more like You. It's easy to assume that Your plants are meant for those smarter, richer, or more famous. You also came for me. Help me keep my eyes focused on You.
