@ #41 -- other than the fact that no one has a 'previous life' unless referring to life in eternity looking back at their one and only life here on earth.

"down in their discomfort zone to help pass the time of day......" is that really how you picture hell ? There Will be a life of torment, No presence of God Anywhere = total darkness. No one will be bored -- like sitting on the street corner twittling their thumbs waiting for 'eternity' to pass with a can of beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other.

And Why do you assume that all those people are in the 'fiery sector of hades'. Oh, ya -- those figures you presented.

Thought-provoking, yes. But how about the people 'we' can share the Gospel of salvation with who will have a choice to make and choose salvation.

How long are you suggesting that 'this' thread will last?!

How about all the New people being born Into this world.

other than the fact that no one has a 'previous life' unless referring to life in eternity looking back at their one and only life here on earth.

Eternal life is not easy to explain because it has almost nothing to do with longevity, or immortality, or pre-existence, present existence, or perpetual existence.

Humans have creature life; which is a genera of life common to all the birds, the bugs, the beasts, and the fishies that God created in the book of Genesis.

Every creature was created with a nature specific to its species. For example: Humans have human nature, bats have bat nature, termites have termite nature, starfish have starfish nature, oysters have oyster nature, and pelicans have pelican nature.

We could also say it like this: Humans have human life, bats have bat life, termites have termite life, starfish have starfish life, oysters have oyster life, and pelicans have pelican life.

In a nutshell; the kind of life that creatures have determines their nature. I'm not talking about their physical nature, rather; the core of their being.

Now; if people had God's life (i.e. eternal life) instead of only human life: guess what? They'd have God's nature; viz: divine nature. (2Pet 1:3-4)

Note the grammatical tense of the "have" verb in the passages below. It's present tense rather than future, indicating that believers possess the divine nature right now, in this life-- no delay and no waiting period.

John 3:36 . . He who believes in the Son has eternal life

John 6:47 . .Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life.

John 5:24 . . I assure you, those who heed my message, and trust in God who sent me, have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from Death into Life.

1John 5:13 . . I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Eeternal life is very crucial because according to God's testimony, as an expert witness in all matters pertaining to Christianity; people lacking eternal life do not have God's son. In other words: they are quite christless.

1John 5:11-12 . . This is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in His son. So whoever has God's son has this life; and whosoever does not have this life, does not have His son.

Christless people are in grave danger of the sum of all fears.

Rom 8:9 . . If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.

Not everyone alive is among the living. According to John 5:24, the living are defined as people who have eternal life. The dead, then, would be defined as people who don't have eternal life.

You're right -- eternal life is Not easy to explain because until a person is Dead, they Won't experience it. God's Word tells us about it -- that it Will take place in everyone's future. That there Will Be a heaven OR hell (lake of fire and brimstone) in everyone's future.

Eternal life has Everything to do with our immortality. Presently everyone is mortal. But upon death, we 'put on' immortality. We Will live on eternally -- no one ever really Dies. We simply cease to exist in This part of life.

The difference between you and I and every other Human AND the animal world is that animals don't have souls. They live on instinct. They were created for our use. There are specific animals that we can kill and eat. Other animals that can be killed for other reasons.

People Can kill one another but it's considered a crime -- unless we are defending ourselves from other people attacking us. In which case we'd better be able to prove it. Or we pay negative consequences.

Biologically human beings are considered to be part of the animal world. Homo sapiens are considered to be mammals as are whales and some other animals. But that is Only in the realm of biology / the world of evolution. And evolution is Not Biblical. Because evolution contradicts Genesis creation.

God created all the creatures of the earth 1st -- and Then He created people. Adam and Eve being the first.

In the animal world there Are variety of 'kinds' of animals. There are elephants / birds / dogs / reptiles / cats / hyppos./ fish. Elephants are part of a larger group of animals. As are cats and dogs. And they Do have their various 'natures'. I've been around both cats and dogs growing up and as an adult. Kittens are cute as ever to watch. And how the mother cat communicates with her kittens. Fascinating. But they can't learn each others' language or write it down. That's specific to human beings.

Well -- a cat is going to act like a cat because it's in their DNA that God created them with. The same with fish -- or any other animal. An elephant is distinctly an elephant because that's how God created them. Their DNA.

And there is no crossing over -- a fish will always Be a fish. A cat will always be a cat. And animals mate within their 'kinds' when out in their natural environment.

No one will ever 'lead an animal to the Lord'. Animals are very smart -- people can train them to do most anything. People train dogs to guide people -- to sniff out narcotics -- dead bodies. Service dogs -- but people are training them.

And, yes, eternal life is what we can get Now -- a person accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior and it's an immediate Now thing - - the Holy Spirit comes to indwell that person Immediately -- and we can observe the Fruits of the Holy Spirit in believers. So - by / through their fruits we shall know them. And the person who does Not exhibit those fruits does Not have the Holy Spirit indwelling them.

so, yes, the Christless person Will end up in hell upon their death. That's why it's important to follow the great commission given in Matthew 28 -- last verses. Starting at home and expanding to where ever our life takes us. The 'world' around us. And there are believers all over the world. This is a very mobile world -- Believers Are to be 'missionaries' where ever we go. And people from those 'other' countries Do come to this country. The foreign missions coming 'home'.

Mankinds' eternal life in heaven is available Only through the death, burial and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ -- the Son of God. His shed blood on the cross.

Greetings @Sue D.

You seem a bit annoyed at this thread.......However, please consider the fact that many threads that you contribute to continue into hundreds of posts....often rapidly going off topic.

This is one thread that I would like to see continuing.....as a solemn reminder of life death and eternity.....and backed up with both scriptural and other interesting facts.

Fairest flowers soon decay,
Youth and beauty pass away;
O you have not long to stay,
Be in time!
While God’s Spirit bids you come,
Sinner, do not longer roam,
Lest you seal your hopeless doom,
Be in time!

Time is gliding swiftly by,
Death and judgment draweth nigh,
To the arms of Jesus fly,
Be in time!
O I pray you count the cost!
Ere the fatal line be crossed,
And your soul in hell be lost,
Be in time!*

animals don't have souls.

Gen 2:7 . . And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

The Hebrew word for "soul" is nephesh (neh'-fesh) which isn't unique to humans.

Nephesh shows up first in Gen 1:20-21 as sea creatures and winged creatures. Next it shows up in Gen 1:24 as terra creatures; viz: cattle, creepy crawlies, and wild beasts. Again in Gen 1:30 as every beast of the earth, and every fowl of the air, and everything that creepeth upon the earth. Again in Gen 2:7 as the human creature. Again in Gen 2:19-20 as the creatures to whom Adam gave names. Again in Gen 9:8-16 as all life aboard the ark, including Noah and his family.

Some say that animals are people too. Well . . they're certainly not human, but according to the Bible, they are very definitely just as much souls as humans. So I guess we could consent, at least to some degree, that critters are people too; in their own way.

Saturday, June 27, 2010, a 6-month-old baby girl was killed and her mother seriously injured when the pair were struck by a falling tree branch in New York City's Central Park Zoo. The girl's father was taking their picture near the sea lion exhibit when a branch above them suddenly snapped off and fell.

Tuesday, July 3, 2007; nineteen year-old Ramiro Gonzalez was returning home to Nyssa Oregon from a week-end honeymoon in northern California with his bride Idalia asleep in the back seat when their 1997 Pontiac Grand Am hit a cow twenty miles east of Burns. The Pontiac went off the road, through a fence, and burst into flames. Idalia escaped with only minor injuries, but Ramiro died at the Ste. Charles Medical Center in Bend the very next day.

Ramiro and his bride didn't get to live in a home of their own for even one single minute of their marriage-- never had a baby, never joined the PTA, never saved for college, never went to ballet lessons, nor to soccer or little league, never went on family picnics, never took home movies and photos at Christmas, Easter, or birthdays, never went to the beach and built sand castles --no, their entire future, and all their dreams of family life, were shattered in an instant by a lame-brained bovine; and Ramiro wasn't even 20 years old yet.

March 20, 2008; fifty-seven year old Judy Kay Zagorski, of Pigeon, Michigan, was sitting in the front seat of her father's boat going 25 knots on the Atlantic Ocean side of Vaca Key in Florida, when a Spotted Eagle Ray, with a wingspan of 5 to 6 feet; leaped up out of the water-- for who knows what reason --and collided with Zagorski, knocking her backwards onto the deck of the boat. She died from the impact. Judy's sister, standing next to her, wasn't injured.

On a November morning in 1998, Alan Pakula climbed into his Volvo station wagon and began the 100-mile drive from Manhattan to his Long Island house. The acclaimed movie director of Sophie's Choice, All The President's Men, and The Pelican Brief, had made that trip countless times with no incident.

As the 70 year-old Pakula neared exit 49 on the Long Island Expressway just before noon, the tires of a vehicle ahead of him flipped a 7-foot piece of steel rod into the air. Within seconds, the rod shot through Pakula's windshield, smashing into his forehead, killing him almost instantly.

Death often comes when people least expect it. As a rule, they don't usually get up in the morning planning it to be their last day on earth. The 169,752 killed, and 127,294 listed as missing in more than eleven countries by the tsunami of 2004, were taken by surprise, and given no warning it was to be their last day on earth.

The 2,829 people who perished in a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, and the 189 who died in the Pentagon, didn't go in to work expecting their lives to end before lunch that day. No, people's lives often end while they still have obligations and commitments, aspirations, things to do, places to go, and people to see; when a car accident, train wreck, act of nature, plane crash, crime, heart attack, or stroke puts an abrupt end to every plan they ever made.

Tuesday, Jan 12, 2010, a 7.0 earthquake struck Port au Prince Haiti right out of the blue subsequently causing the loss of more than 200,000 lives. A similar act of nature on March 11, 2011, left 25,000 dead and/or missing in Japan.

Okeechobee woman Dawn Johnston, 38, was killed Wednesday June 30, 2010 after part of a portable toilet crashed through her car's windshield. Dawn was driving south on SR 15 shortly after 11 a.m. when two portable toilets fell from the trailer of a pickup truck traveling north,. The portable toilets shattered when they hit the road, and a piece of one of them crashed through the woman's windshield, striking her. Johnston's car then veered off the road and collided with a tree.

A rain-saturated hillside above the Stillaguamish River on the outskirts of the rural town of Oso in the State of Washington gave way March 22, 2014 leaving behind a current death toll of 41 souls. The landslide happened to suddenly and so rapidly that nobody saw it coming and/or had the slightest chance of getting out of the way. Listed among the dead and missing was a four-month old infant.

Freak incidents like those listed above can happen to anybody in the form of a stray bullet from a drive-by, lightening strike, gas explosion, choking on a piece of meat, electrocution, earthquake, a drunk driver, a fall in the bath tub; bricks dropped from an overpass, a school shooting, or any number of out-of-the-blue surprises.

Because of the uncertainty of tomorrow, people need to start thinking about the afterlife today, while they have the chance; rather than risk being caught off guard by sudden death when there will be no time to think; and they find themselves suddenly thrust into the unseen world quite by surprise.

Ecc 9:12 . . No man knows when his hour will come: as fish are caught in a cruel net, or birds are taken in a snare, so men are trapped by evil times that fall unexpectedly upon them.

Adziilii -- yes, God created mankind Special from the animal world -- Not an extention Of.

Can a person explain the plan of salvation to an animal and guide the animal to accept Jesus Christ as it's personal Savior? I think Not.

Will there be animals in heaven? People who are animal lovers -- the dog / cat that's been part of their family for years who would Like to be reunited with it in heaven. God's Word focuses on People's need for salvation. Not that of animals.

There is a passage that talks about the lion laying down with the lamb -- and children being safe with a cobra -- isn't that during the 1,000 yr reign of Christ -- the peacefulness that will exist during that time in history. IF animals Are in heaven, it will be because God put them there for our enjoyment -- Not because a human being led them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. God put them here in the first place for us to have dominion Over them -- Not as an extention of their world. We didn't evolve / develop from chimps or any other animal.

Animals do not go to school or college. Animals cannot be trained to take care of their own kind in a Dr. office or hospital. Animal hospitals - vetinarians are human beings - Not other animals. No one sees animals in grocery stores doing their own shopping. Now days there Are some stores that allow pets to be brought in by their owners. Pet Smart is one and it's either Home Depot or Lowe's that allow pets inside With their human owners. Service dogs , also.

Mary had a little lamb and actually Did take it to school one day -- but it wasn't allowed to stay. --- that little lamb Probably became 'muttun' to be eaten one day and it's wool was eventually shorn off and used as thread to make warm clothing from.

I've had opportunity to discuss evolution / creation a couple of times over the years. On a secular forum and with a biology teacher in college.

So -- is an animal going to end up in hell for eternity or simply cease to exist when it dies.

Just thinking -- God breathed into Adam's nostrils the breath of life and he became a living soul. that is not expressed when God created the world of animals.

Adz -- yes , you're right -- death Does come unexpectedly -- we just never know. And God Does know our hearts -- our possible rebellious heart or our loving, caring heart. People on the brink of death and God decides to leave them here on earth for a while longer. God's plan for our lives -- Not Our plan.

Is our Own heart right with God. Who is responsible for the heart of someone in those 'remote areas of Africa'? God brought that person into this world -- He alone knows if that person / those people/ will accept or reject Him. There are Lots of people who feel led of God to go to those countries -- missionaries - medical missions. There's a lady I went to college with for a while -- she felt led to go to missions -- medical -- received a great education in prep for going to Togo, W. Africa. developing nursing college for those people -- go out into the bush country on a regular basis and lead them to the Lord as well as treating them at the hospitals that have been developed in one of those 'remote areas'.

An extremely busy life and the missionaries' health is affected in the process.

God hasn't forgotten Anyone's soul.

My mother used to work in the Recovery Room at a local hospital. Accidents were brought in -- surgery. There was a car with 4 women in it -- a pickup truck was stopped at a signal light ahead of them. "The wrong switch was hit and the load of dirt got emptied into their car. They actually survived the on slought of the dirt . What killed the one woman was a piece of a candy bar she'd been eating got stuck in her throat -- she was eating it when she saw what was happening. She gasped in horror, inhaled it and choked to death.

So -- when an individual feels led to Share -- Do Share.

Every species aboard the Ark, and every species that perished in the Flood, had the breath of life.

Gen 6:17 . . And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.

Gen 7:13-15 . . In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark; they, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort. And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life.

Gen 7:21-22 . . And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died.

Yes, everything Could breathe or they wouldn't be alive.

But Genesis simply said that God spoke the world into existence -- animals of the land and birds and fish. But it doesn't say that God specifically breathed their life into them. God specifically Created Adam. And then took a rib out of Adam and brought Eve into existence. Mankind is Special that way. Human beings are the only 'beings' that can have direct communication with God Through Jesus Christ. And while in the garden -- Before the fall-- they had direct communication with God. There was conversation. And, now -- because of the cross -- we have the mediator -- Christ Jesus.

Yes, every animal that God called -- that was alive went into the ark. Two of every kind. Male and female -- so they could start reproducing after the land dried up.

And That happened because mankind became increasingly sinful. Evil was present continually. The people had Plenty of warning about their coming fate. They heard and they laughed. Just like Society does today. We're almost as bad as people of Sodom and Gohmorrah. --the homosexuality. Not trying to change the subject -- just sayin... .

Gen 7:2; "You shall take with you of every clean animal by sevens, a male and his female; and of the animals that are not clean two, a male and his female;
Gen 7:3; also of the birds of the sky, by sevens, male and female, to keep offspring alive on the face of all the earth.

Fourteen of the "clean" animals. Two of the "unclean" animals.

Then again, according the Irish Rovers, unicorns weren't included. :)

The Hebrew words for the breath of life in Adam's nostrils at Gen 2:7 are the same Hebrew words for the breath of life in all the creatures' nostrils at Gen 7:20-22.

The difference being that animals do not have souls?

Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

Adz -- are you trying to say that animals and man are equal? That people are simply an extension of the animal world.

Genesis 1:26 "Then God said, "Let Us make man in our image, in Our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea , the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

Man was created / made in the image of "Us" / the Godhead.

And, yes to # 53 -- Genesis 7:2 backing back to 6:19 - 20 is what I was referring to.

Don't 'we' usually think in terms of people having souls that spend eternity either in heaven or hell?

Those various passages Do refer to animals having a spirit. But God's Word assumes that salvation is for people. How many animals can read the Bible themselves. Or Hear God's Word and understand what they are hearing.

According to Matt 10:28, the body and the soul are perishable. However; though the body is perishable by any means, the soul is perishable only by divine means; i.e. the deaths of body and soul aren't necessarily simultaneous, viz: the soul lives on until such a time as God decides to give it either a thumb up or a thumb down.
