How confident are you that you’re saved? Are you just hoping to find out when you die, or are you absolutely certain right now? Dr. David Jeremiah shares the first of five evidences to help you know for sure that you’re a Christian.

Sermon by Dr. David Jeremiah

Many followers of Jesus Christ look for the assurance of salvation in the wrong places. We tend to seek assurance of salvation in the things God is doing in our lives, in our spiritual growth, in the good works and obedience to God’s Word that is evident in our Christian walk. While these thing can be evidence of salvation, they are not what we should base the assurance of our salvation. Rather, we should find the assurance of our salvation in the objective truth of God’s Word. We should have confident trust that we are saved based on the promises God has declared, not because of our subjective experiences.

How can you have assurance of salvation? Consider 1 John 5:11–13: “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.” Who is it that has the Son? It is those who have believed in Him (John 1:12). If you have Jesus, you have life. Not temporary life, but eternal.

God wants us to have assurance of our salvation. We should not live our Christian lives wondering and worrying each day whether or not we are truly saved. That is why the Bible makes the plan of salvation so clear. Believe in Jesus Christ (John 3:16; Acts 16:31). “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). Do you believe that Jesus died to pay the penalty for your sins (Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21)? Do you trust Him alone for salvation? If your answer to these questions is “yes,” you are saved! Assurance means freedom from doubt. By taking God’s Word to heart, you can have no doubt about the reality of your eternal salvation.

Jesus Himself assures those who believe in Him: “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand” (John 10:28–29). Eternal life is just that—eternal. There is no one, not even yourself, who can take Christ’s God-given gift of salvation away from you.

We hide God’s Word in our hearts so that we do not sin against Him (Psalm 119:11), and this includes the sin of doubt. Take joy in what God’s Word is saying to you: instead of doubting, we can live with confidence! We can have the assurance from Christ’s own Word that our salvation will never be in question. Our assurance of salvation is based on the perfect and complete salvation God has provided for us through Jesus Christ.

I am very secure in my knowledge of being born again. Many years ago when I was asked if I was born again, I replied yes. A man whom I had never seen before or since was visiting our small country church and came up to me and asked me if I was born again. I said yes and he said I thought I was born again. The entire interaction was less than about 20 seconds and I immediately forgot about it. About 16 years later Christ came to me as a Theif in the night and revealed himself to me. This very supernatural experience was just the beginning of a long journey that has been going on now for about 25 years. God called me and passed me to Christ. I learned quickly the true fear of The Lord and He began to reveal the many mysteries contained in The Word of God. There is really no way to explain this other than to use the scripture that explains what Christ went through. Every single child of God has to go through the same thing Christ went through as it relates to being born again. He was made of quick understanding in the fear of The Lord and Revelations 2:27 shows that Christ was broken revelations 2:27
And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. Every child of God must be taught directly by God. Jesus was the first born among many. From the time of your visitation you must endure a great fight of afflictions. I was prepared for the actual rebirth by The Father and it was, for me, the single most terrifying experience in my life. And if those days were not shortened no flesh would be saved but for the elect sake those days shall be shortened. The Ancient Greek translation for the word apocalypse means the revelation of mysteries. This is the apocalypse that every child of God will experience.

I am convinced that there are those in our churches that believe they are a child of God (they did all the right stuff according to their leaders) but are not. They sat they are born again Christians (a redundancy) either because they were baptized and/or confirmed or because they said some form of the sinners prayer at a meeting they attended or prayed with a friend.

But then as time passes we see no change whatsoever (like the unrepentant pedophile priests of recent times) or on to be selfish, vain, even cruel with no regard for others...

Jesus says you shall know them by their fruit
Paul says there are works or actions that follow eventually (Ephesians 2:10)
James speaks about how certain efforts and works on our part demonstrate we have a genuine faith
We are told Simon Magi believed and was baptized yet was not saved because his heart was wrong before the Lord (he wanted the Holy Spirit to exploit it)
Some of the early church fathers comment how mere profession alone does not save
5 of the virgins alleged to be part of the bride were not (He NEVER knew them)

Only if the Spirit of Christ dwells in you are you one of His...

A genuine faith response to the call of the Spirit does something....we are no longer our own

Paul

@Chad
First Brother. Thank-you for sharing these two sermons.

I believe there are times in a believers life, especially when they first start out, or during times when they know that their behavior is not consistent with how God would want us to behave. That doubt begins to creep in. This is the powerful type of sermon that can assist those who begin to question themselves and where they stand.

I truly believe listening to these two will be of great benefit to those who appear to be floundering.
I'll have to create myself a permalink to them in order to share with others who come in asking. Am I really a Christian? Am I still saved?

Once again thank-you Brother for sharing.

It is at the point of surrender, when the sinner yields his will to Christ, that a new power takes custody (control, ownership) of the new heart.

Then a revolutionized formation (new creation) occurs which man can never accomplished for himself.

The origin of the work is supernatural and it accomplishes what only divinity could do in human nature..

It is divine power alone that brings about the new birth.

The first and highest evidence of the new birth is found in the blessing God has promised to all those who experience this vital connection with Him....
