Job 2:6-7 King James Version (KJV)
6 And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.
7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

6 The Lord had to give Satan the power, Satan can not do anything to us unless we are either of the worlds or the Lord allows him to do, God knows what is best often He allows Satan to harm us and send troubles our way so we can draw closer to Him. God has the power over life and death, Satan does not. Death is apart of the fall, God gave the punishment of the fall not Satan.

7 Satan attacked, Satan wants to make us unhappy. We being unhappy can distract us from serving God.

This passage always bothered me until I learned about the blood covenant. Most theologians believe that Job lived many years before Abraham was born. So Job's life predates the Abrahamic blood covenant, right? I see Job's life as a holy man outside of a blood covenant with God. He had no covenant commitment from God, no covenant promises to put faith in, no benefits. Abraham and NT Christians today have the promises in the New Covenant (blood covenant). This is how God related to man outside of a covenant made with blood.

Greetings in the Lord,
There is One God. amen. God is the Creator of ALL things, (Colossians 1:16). There is no power but that of God, and all power is ordained of God.

We, His children, really need to get ahold of this wisdom. Nothing can happen to me, or afflict me, persecute me, or even kill me, except it is given the power to do so from above. There is nothing above God and all things are below God. Amen

Amen to that. The truth is that Satan has already been defeated. But, he tells us lies and we get into bondage of untruth about what we have in Christ.

Thanks, Clark, for the discussion topic. The story of Job is about why bad things happen to good people. The answer is to test their goodness. Job is God's servant, therefore he is under God's protection.
This morning I was reading Romans 8; Paul's experience with trouble is a nice contrast to Job's. Job questions his own integrity and wants to question God about his extreme difficulties (and, to be honest, so do I) while Paul is way past that. "in all things God works for the good..." "We are more than conquerors ". Knowing that my righteousness is based on Christ's sacrifice, and knowing God's love changes the question of "why bad things happen to good people" to "how can God change bad things into good".
Thanks again for the topic. I needed it this morning,and God used it to turn some bad into good.
