Hello all, I have a question about a scripture. Do you believe 1 Cor 6:9-10 is speaking about believers or nonbelievers. I believe it's speaking about nonbelievers who are not born again, because if you take a look at verse 11 scripture makes it clear. Take a look at these phrases the Lord gives us..

1. And that is what some of you were
2. But you were
3. washed, sanctified, justified...how?
4. by believing in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ

There is power to His name, when believing on His name. Verse 9-10 describe who we were as nonbelievers without salvation, thus verse 11. Verse 11 describes who we are now after salvation. What are your thoughts.

1 Cor 6:9-11 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

I think,

These are all descriptions that completely describe a person. Their life is defined by this term that's given. No one who is redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ is defined by these kind of terms, lest Christ died in vain.

Hi Travis. Ok, so you agree that verse 9-10 are not speaking of born again believers.

Hi ATP. Someone who is born again is born of the Holy Spirit and does not indulge in worldy ways, which is sin. Not saying we're perfect at all and sinless, but the difference is we acknowledge the sin, repent and keep "running the race" as Paul states. I believe the verse you mentioned is general to anyone, but moreso unbelievers not born again of the Spirit of God.

So you believe a born again believer cannot inherit the kingdom of God if he sins?

Not what I mean not what I said. If you're born again, you're saved. Remember God looks at the heart not outward appearance. I finished my reply by stating moreso the unbelievers. If it helps, I strongly believe it's the unbelievers. You cannot be born again and condemned anyway. It's contradicting.

.

Some of us don't believe in once saved always saved. Believers can sin sometimes.
But there is a difference between making mistakes sometimes and willfully continuing in a sinful lifestyle.
Even after you are saved, you can go back to the lifestyle you were living before.

If it helps, I strongly believe it's the unbelievers.

But you're not convinced?

Some of us don't believe in once saved always saved.

Why not? It says here neither the present nor the future can separate us from God.

Rom 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The love of God is not the salvation of God. God loves even sinners, but they aren't saved. ( Rom 5:8; John 3;16; )

Rom 5:8; But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Were these sinners saved before Jesus died for them? Did God love them before Jesus died for them?

John 3:16; "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

Did God love the world before he gave His only Son to die for us?

Love does not equal salvation. Besides all that the Bible makes it clear Christians can leave God.
The passage below says there are people who have been enlightened, been partakers of the Holy Spirit, tasted the Word of God, and then fall away.
Can you have those things if you aren't saved? Can you be a partaker of the Holy Spirit and not be saved?

Heb 6:4; For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit,
Heb 6:5; and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,
Heb 6:6; and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.

Can people by their own power escape the defilements of the world? Or does it take the knowledge of Jesus Christ to be able to do so?
Yet these people are also able to turn away. In fact it's worse for them who have "known the way of righteousness" than those who never knew.

2 Pet 2:20; For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.
2 Pet 2:21; For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them.
2 Pet 2:22; It has happened to them according to the true proverb, "A DOG RETURNS TO ITS OWN VOMIT," and, "A sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire."

Can an unbeliever be sanctified by the blood of the covenant? If so, why do we need Jesus?

Heb 10:29; How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
Heb 10:30; For we know Him who said, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY." And again, "THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE."

Is it possible to believe for "a while" and then turn away?

Luke 8:13; "Those on the rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no firm root; they believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away.

1 Tim 4:1; But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,

You completely took Romans 8:38-39 out of context.
Neither present nor future can separate us. End of story.
And to clear things up, the love of God IS the salvation of God.
Jesus died on the cross because of love.
