My goodness! What bible do you read? Or do you?
I read several different versions but I'm partial to the KJV. The promise of the land to Abraham was to him and his seed. Paul said that Seed is Christ. He also said those in Christ are Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise. The promise is the land. Christians are heirs of the land.

Does that mean you want to move to Israel?

Then what good is that promise to you. Maybe you should look at the other many promised God gave you?
It's everything. It's the promise God has made for man.

For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

My goodness man! The entire New Covenant is FULL of promises for YOU. Did you stop reading at Abraham? Come on Butch...Read more! You'll love it Jesus paid it all just for you. It would be a shame to waste it all.

I've read it all. It all works together as a plan. It seems many dont see the whole picture. Instead they see bits and pieces. The whole plan, from start to finish, is in the book. If we see the whole plan it's easier to understand the bits and pieces

OK...How does one read the entire bible then fall back to one small portion of it. The Covenant of Abraham is not God's plan of salvation in its entirety. Nowhere near!

It's the beginning of the fulfillment of the plan. It is the hope of the Christian. Contrary to what many believe, that people go to Heaven, the promise of God is the land on a restored Earth. Christians are heirs of the land promised to Abraham and his Seed which is Christ.

The light begins to dawn....That promise is real. That promise is also for the OT saints. There were many old saints who were promised land but died before they saw it. That land is for them... The Word says that when we die...To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord...The Lord does not live in Israel. The Word describes abode as being in the uttermost North. That would be far from Earth. Unless of course I misunderstand...You go all the way north on the Earth and there is a lot more north to go. Past Polaris and keep going. Sounds interesting

That's not actually what it says. Paul's said he is willing to absent from the body and present with the Lord. But, the context od that passage is the Resureection. Paul tells is that the land is promised to believers. The word says Gos will dwell in Jerusalem.

Of course the OT saints were believers too. Butch I have to go for now. I'll come back tomorrow. That cognitive dissonance thing is kicking in again. I'm sorry. Bye for now

The Promised land was made to the Children of Israel - the Jews. The land of Canaan is actually the modern day Gaza strip.

My goodness! What bible do you read? Or do you? I'm not trying to insult you or offend you, but you don't seem to know or believe much Word

You're an ironizing and condescending canuck - let's have some fun with you:
Let's see if you know what "ALL THINGS" means, and we can look at many many verses. Let's start with Romans 11:36, I wanna watch your dance . . your AvoiDance that is:
“For of him, and through him, and to him, are ALL THINGS: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”

@Primordial Light -- what's with the attacking? No need for it.

Speaking of Romans 11:36 -- back up to vs 33 "Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgements and His ways past finding out!

vs 34 "For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has become His counselor?" vs 35 "Or who has first given to Him And it shall be repaid to him?"

vs 36 "For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen."

No human being has all knowledge of Scripture. Not even you.

'We are confident, I say,
and willing rather to be absent from the body,
and to be present with the Lord.'
(2 Corinthians 5:8)

Hello @Butch5,

You refer to the verse above in response to @Admon Mikha'el's use of it, and it is very often used as a proof text by those who maintain that when the believer dies, he merely exits this present life to continue living in the presence of the Lord. However, this is not what this verse is saying at all.

Paul was willing to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord, yes: but for that to happen would require the Lord's return, for only then will the believer exchange what is mortal for that which is immortal, corruption for in-corruption (1 Corinthians 15:53-54) only then will death be swallowed up in victory. Only the power of the resurrection can bring about that change in the bodies of those that are alive and remain at His coming, and raise incorruptible those who are 'asleep in Christ' (1 Corinthians 15:52).

At the time that Paul wrote those words, the expectation among believers was that Christ's return was imminent. It only awaited Israel's repentance as a nation (Acts 3:19-21). That was the hope all the way through the approx. 40 yrs of the Acts period. However, as we now know, Israel did not repent, and was laid aside (temporarily) in blindness and unbelief. So the resurrection still awaits those who are 'asleep in Christ' (1 Corinthians 15:18), There is no life apart from resurrection.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

Friend Complete Assuming that you were right...Where will I go when I kick off? No doubt a place to wait for the return of the Lord, according to your understanding, but where will that be? And show me scripture?

Hello there, @Admon Mikha'el,

The body will return to the dust from whence it came, and the spirit (ie., 'the breath of life') will return to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7), for man will then cease to be 'a living soul' (Genesis 2:7). However, in the eyes of God the believer will be 'asleep in Christ' (1 Corinthians 15:8, Psalm 13:3) until the resurrection.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
