Surely there were some among them who had to learn something? Yet they were healed.

Matthew 4:23-25 (King James Version)

Surely there were some among them who had sin that GOD must judge them for? Yet HE healed them.

Matthew 15:30

Maybe GOD has different standards today?

Matthew 19:1-2 (King James Version)

Matthew 19

Luke 4:39-41 (King James Version)

39And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.

Maybe JESUS didn't know that FATHER was trying to teach them something, or trying to judge them?

Luke 6:18-20 (King James Version)

18And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.
19And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.
20And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.

Multitudes. That's a lot of people. No sinners among them? HE just healed them all.

I realize I'm being a bit facetious but hey? I'm told constantly at TJ that GOD makes people sick or makes them lame or whatever to teach them something, yet there's JESUS working in opposition to the FATHER busily healing them all. The only conclusion I can draw here is that either those people learned really really fast, or what I'm told about how GOD makes you sick to teach you something is a religious lie.
Which is it?

Please! Give me viable scriptures that say GOD blew out my thyroid when I was miles back in the woods, causing me months in the hospital, and almost going bankrupt because of it, just to teach me something. And scriptures to show why GOD would put you in a position where your very life is in jeopardy to teach you something and then keep it secret what HE wants you to learn. Because you know that HE never tells you what it is......
I can give you pages of scriptures that say GOD heals. That by JESUS stripes we WERE healed! Just because we receive it.

Your turn!

For one, sickness is not the only way God can teach us, it is a way in which he could teach us. But it doesn't mean it is what He wants for us. (John 10:10) He wants us to live a life to the full. If there is sickness in the world, it is because of sin.

Yes, indeed we will not always understand why or what is the purpose, but we always need to trust Him. Afterall, that could be the first lesson - TRUST.

Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV)
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the LORD.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

With all the scriptures you provided above about Jesus healing, His name was glorified. And if that will be the only reason, about getting sick, to show God's power through you, to bless others, to teach others... it is a wonderful reason.

I would have no problem with getting sick if GOD was Glorified by it. But!! There is no scriptural basis for it. "By JESUS stripes we are healed". Isa 53:4 "By JESUS stripes we were healed" 1 Pete 2:24

JESUS suffered and died for our healing. It would make no sense at all for GOD to make us sick and nullify that covenat act. GOD has no right to do that by covenant.
When a blood covenant is/was broken, by covenant law the one who broke it had to die. GOD would have to die if HE broke HIS own covenant.
Study covenant

i have a scriptual basis for it.... john 11:4
When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

God does as He wills.

edit part: i agree sickness is because of sin. however i dont think just because we get the flu its because we got into our flesh. when adam fell it brought all that into the world. look at Job. i heard this story once. a man prayed for someone to be healed. they died. he asked God why he didnt heal them. God said He did heal them.
you said God dosent have the right to.... thats putting God in a box. He dont fit. We belong to Him. God has any and all right to whatever He sees fit. as a christian it is us who have no right.

Good shot Eddie But when did that happen? Before or after JESUS paid the price for our healing? It was before right? Meaning it was under a different covenant. We now live under a 'new and better covenant'.

12 Dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to live as I do in freedom from these things, for I have become like you Gentiles—free from those laws.

You did not mistreat me when I first preached to you.13 Surely you remember that I was sick when I first brought you the Good News.14 But even though my condition tempted you to reject me, you did not despise me or turn me away. No, you took me in and cared for me as though I were an angel from God or even Christ Jesus himself.15 Where is that joyful and grateful spirit you felt then? I am sure you would have taken out your own eyes and given them to me if it had been possible.

when did Jesus raise lazuras from the dead before or after he officially conquored the grave?
i dont believe God almighty is limited to or by time regardless of covenant.
or anything really. He dont fit in a box.

and speaking of covenant i think its most simply defined here:
jeremiah 31:33
but this is the convenant that I will make with the house of Isreal; after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in thier inward parts, and write it in thier hearts; and will be thier God and they shall be my people.
also keep in mind the OT speaks of things that back then had not happened but it was written in past tense.

would also like to add I am not certian God makes us sick. but he obviously allows it.

Joh 11:4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

God does not make anyone sick to get Glory. That is like me breaking your arm to show everyone what great Cast I can make. God is not the one killing, stealing and destroying, nor does God have to wound or hurt anyone to prove anything. Many where healed by Jesus and there was no shortage of those needing healed. God certainly did not have to create a few sick for lack of not finding any.

The KJV is correct, but it's how it's read, and if we read it through a preconceived Doctrine, we can misread what Jesus actually said.

Jesus said, this sickness is not unto death. Well, the man died anyway and put in a tomb. This is a good example of Jesus having knowledge of something and speaking by faith, Calling those things that be not as though they where.

So, what Jesus said is. "This sickness won't bring death, but it will bring glory to God.

In other words, do not be concerned about this, God's Glory will be shown through his son.

Joh 11:11 These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
Joh 11:12 Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
Joh 11:13 Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
Joh 11:14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
-----------------------------------------

Joh 9:2
And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
Joh 9:3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

Once again, God is not mentioned to having caused this, Jesus just said the works of God will be manifested here in him.

CEV
Joh 9:3 "No, it wasn't!" Jesus answered. "But because of his blindness, you will see God work a miracle for him.

-----------------
What about Job? Once again, how Job is explained by many, does not line up with the Word, many scriptures being ignored and not compared.

We do not put God in a box, God defined himself in his Word, and we best believe it. God told Joshua that not one thing has failed in all the things God spoke concerning them. If you find something in the Word, and believe it, then all things are possible to them that believe the Word of God, and the Word of God can not fail.

Jesus Is Lord.

brother mike i agree. i think perhaps you got ahold of my post before i edited in the last line. which to keep one from having to scroll up again i will re post it here:

the point i was making about Job was God allowed him to "get sick" at one point. well i guess i didnt really make it did i? my brain goes really fast and sometimes i just expect others to know or be keeping up. i have to go now. boss is making me do stuff. more later.

Another good shot. It does not, however, show that it was GODs will that Paul be sick, Even so GOD did Romans 8:28 it. HE did teach in spite od it, and people grew.

Yup I have to agree. JESUS The FATHER and the HOLY SPIRIT are not bound by time at all. But they are bound by covenant. JESUS raised Lazaurs from the grave not because HE had to, but from mercy, and to teach us. GOD used LIFE to teach us something.

As for Jeremiah 31:33 That is a part of our covenant but only a part. He did put his WORD into our hearts too, didn't HE?

If sickness is a "blessing"

If you believe sickness is a "blessing" or that God is using it to "teach you a lesson", then why not pray for an additional cancer to go along with the one you have? Or two broken legs instead of one? That way you will have twice as many "blessings", etc.

====================================

If some people believe that sickness is a blessing, perhaps they should ask God for two blessings....two broken legs instead of one, two tumors of the brain instead of one....etc. The only thing that God is trying to teach man is to trust Him in time of trouble and to pray for healing. God always comes through.

Yes indeed, and Paul preached the gospel and did God's will while sick. I wonder why God held back from healing him?

Did GOD really hold back on healing Paul?

Or was Paul not in the place to receive it at that time?

The WORD says "By JESUS stripes we WERE healed. Maybe Paul didn't appropriate it, because according to the WORD it (Pauls healing) was already done.

Maybe because the sickness he had was not to shorten his given life , just an aggravation, but mainly because Paul not only held to God even more , but became even more strong in his faith, so this brings Glory to God to show a bit of light in the evil of things.

I used to marvel at one who would hold God dear in spite of sickness. Not anymore as I understand this life is but a short one and the real life is to come. But I think that is why sometimes, the person who does not turn from God due to sickness brings Glory to God and his Kingdom. God did not cause the sickness, only allowed it, and by not turning from God through frustration and self pity, the enemy is defeated and the Glory of that goes to God. God is more concerned with our spiritual life than our short fleeting physical life.

Healed, Sick, faith

I think once you spiritually grow enough in the Word, and Knowing God is never going to let you down. Even Paul stating we are sheep to the slaughter then saying God is faithful and will deliver you from wicked men may not have cared that much he was beat up some and just kept going.

I have heard believers says...... "I did not get my faith on this fast enough, so now I have some sick days in bed."

While certainly if the Lord said by his strips we are healed, has redeemed us from the curse of the Law which by sin caused the sickness, we should not buckle under and give into symptoms and sickness, believing that God never fails, and his word is true.

On the other hand, someone walking by faith can be sick for awhile not feeling their best fully knowing that they are sick, and it's not because they did not get their faith on it fast enough, but God is faithful and will get them through.

Sickness is a reality, never caused by God to build character, or teach us anything. It's of the curse of the Law, it's satanic.

For even the Centurion said to Jesus, do not come to my house, but Speak the Word only and my servant shall be healed. It's how we handle these things, that get the Lord's attention.

Jesus Is Lord.

What place should Paul have been to receive healing? The pool of Bethesda?
