What does it mean to Work Out Your Salvation?

I think a lot of believers don't know what it means to work out your own salvation. Many, I've come to realize think this means that salvation comes by works and not of free gift of grace through Jesus Christ. So, let's study this. I found a great little bible study on this passage below.

    Finding God's Will

When you make a decision, how do you know you are choosing to do the right thing? In this message, Dr. Stanley explains why we have trouble discerning God’s will and how sin affects our ability to walk in the path He has chosen for us. He also encourages us to discover the Lord’s will through reading the Word of God, praying faithfully, trusting our heavenly Father’s sovereignty over our circumstances, and listening to the wise counsel of others.

  1. Greetings in the name of Jesus!

I Have always wondered what this verse means, what does it mean?

"You will see 'The Awful Horror' standing in the place where he should not be."(Note to the reader: understand what this means!)"

Then those who are in Judea must run away to the hills. The man who is on the roof of his house must not lose time by going down into the house to get anything to take with him.The man who is in the field must not go back to the house for his cloak. How terrible it will be in those days for women who are pregnant, and for mothers who have little babies!

    Does this apply to us?

Pray to God that these things will not happen in wintertime! Please explain this

For the trouble of those days will be far worse than any the world has ever know, from the very beginning when God created the world until the present time.Nor will there ever again be anything like it.[Mark 13 : 14~19]

  2. Matthew Henry's Commentary

The destruction of the temple foretold

See how little Christ values outward pomp, where there is not real purity of heart. He looks with pity upon the ruin of precious souls, and weeps over them, but we do not find him look with pity upon the ruin of a fine house. Let us then be reminded how needful it is for us to have a more lasting abode in heaven, and to be prepared for it by the influences of the Holy Spirit, sought in the earnest use of all the means of grace. (Mk 13:5-13)

    Christ's prophetic declaration

Our Lord Jesus, in reply to the disciples' question, does not so much satisfy their curiosity as direct their consciences. When many are deceived, we should thereby be awakened to look to ourselves. And the disciples of Christ, if it be not their own fault, may enjoy holy security and peace of mind, when all around is in disorder. But they must take heed that they are not drawn away from Christ and their duty to him, by the sufferings they will meet with for his sake. They shall be

hated of all men: trouble enough! Yet the work they were called to should be carried on and prosper. Though they may be crushed and borne down, the gospel cannot be. The salvation promised is more than deliverance from evil, it is everlasting blessedness. (Mk 13:14-23)

This means the begining of Jacobs trouble, it is the time of Great tribulation that will come to all, or some of the saints... but they will be delievered from it. Some say its only Israel, because it says in the old testament Jacobs trouble, but this is also the time of an ungodly ruler who will bear rule over all the earth, except a few nations who escape out of his hand...so i believe it will be a worldwide event. Look up Abomination of Desolation on Google for more info, this is the man of sin spoken of in scripture who will persecute wereout, and overcome the saints, (Book of Daniel, Revelation, and the Prophets.. we call him the Antichrist), both from the new and old testament. The fleeing you see there is a remnant of the Jews, that i believe God spares for himself. The woman of revelation chapter 12.

EDIT: just like to add some scripture to verify some of what i said...

Below is a small discription of the man of sin Paul mentions to the saints.... when this happends it is called the abomination of desolation. What your translation calls the awful horror.

2Th 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and [by] our gathering together unto him,
2Th 2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
    2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
2Th 2:5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
2Th 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
2Th 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth [will let], until he be taken out of the way.
2Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
2Th 2:9 [Even him], whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
2Th 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2Th 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
2Th 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
2Th 2:14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

    God bless
  4. What bible translation is that? may i humbly suggest the NIV or so, if do not understand, or find it easyer to read than the KJV version? That version wouldnt be good for bible prophecy, in the understanding of it . It sounds like the Message version.

    God bless you again...
