The Lord was warning His disciples against worry. There’s no need to stress over food and clothing, since the Father generously cares for birds and flowers—and people are of much greater value. In fact, God will gladly share His entire kingdom with us (Luke 12:32).
That’s the return. The investment if found early in Luke 12:33: “Sell what you have and give alms”. Cheerful giving, not frenzied accumulating, should characterize our lives. This kind of investment, Jesus promised, never goes bust, never drops in value, never disappears due to theft, fire, or flood. It’s stored up in heaven (v34), where God makes sure it’s safe.
