Farmer i agree with you. I myself have many tattoo's and I recieved them after my salavtion many years ago. I happen to like them some of them glorify the Lord some may agree with that and others may not I have Jesus saves on my hand and one of the reason's for this is it is a reminder of who I belong to and every time I see it It also reminds me to stay in line. Also as you had said it has the effect of reaching a different crowd most people would atomatically assume much different becuase of the tattoo's but when they get to know me they get to know the Lord. Some say tattoo's are bad others not but let's let God be the judge of that. love in Christ.
If the Lord brings you to it He will bring you through it.
Amen brother. Let's let God judge us. I would hate to think God said, I sent my one and only son to die a brutal, sacrificial death so that all of those that believe in Him-except the ones with tattoos-shall have eternal life. The sad truth is that we live in a judgemental world. To prove this, I challenge you to send a dirty, stinky, and unkept homeless man into a suburban church and see if they make room for him in the pews. Some will but most will not. Simply put, judgement is killing modern day Christianity. If you were to meet the guy that lead me to the Lord in a dark alley, you would run for your life. He is tattooed, decked out in motorcycle leather, and as rough looking as you can find. But..........This guy gets the job done for the Lord. I have not seen many people with a passion like his for the Lord since. When I share Jesus with people, I try to get them where they are most comfortable. I also try to blend in with their types and relate to their environments and circumstances. Something as wierd as having a tattoo could make the difference in whether or not they listen. Personally, I would tattoo my entire body if I thought it would bring one sinner to repentance. Jesus is not only the way, He is the only way.
Farmer I agree it's not what's on our skin that matters. What matters is if we get the job done and like you said some people feel judgement from the church but when they have someone they can relate to they feel comfortable.
If the Lord brings you to it He will bring you through it.
Therefore let us stop passing judgement on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way.
We can always say 'nothings wrong' with tatoos, but as a testimony we have to remember that we must be cautious, not just to the unbelievers but with our fellow believers.
If tatoos are being a stumbling block to our brothers we must think about getting tatoos..
For example:
Teenagers think that tattoos are cool, so they get the coolest (most of the time - demonic) signs to put on the different parts of their body. And show it off to their friends... And so it goes they saw a Christian guys with tatoos too and they will say to themselves,
"We'll tatoos are okay, Christians are no different from us."
Or there will be a new Christian whom will say, "Hey, my friends got some tatoos and I want one too, except mine will be OneWay Sign, or WWJD...because I am a Christian"
I, for one is distressed of seeing tatoos on Christians... first of all it is a a form of superior alteration, we hurt our skins to the point of burning it... And we must remember our physical body is God's temple, second we don't need to hurt ourselves in showing how much we love God or to be identified as Christians, we are only identified by the Holy Spirit within us, not some sign or symbol. third and most importantly we must always consider what tatoos mean on other culture, what people will say on people who have tatoos, OUR TESTIMONY MATTERS...
ask yourselves... Will Jesus get a tatoo?
"...but the LORD looks at the heart." - 1 Samuel 16:7
First off: have 2 tattoos. Neither of them are visible (they are on my ribs). Neither of them are "anti-Christian". I am acting in the hope that God will judge me not according to the fact that I chose that particular way to honor my ancestors. I do understand those who argue that the Bible says not to mark ourselves; that's their choice to interpret it that way. Honestly, it comes down to the fact that no one will know if tattoos are really that bad until we face Him. I hope He will judge us by our good deeds and not by our ink...
If tattoos are something that will trigger a negative feeling about the others around you then I won't recommend inking it on.
Also, you have to remember that these decisions are decisions that might stick with you for a lifetime(unless you can pay for those expensive laser tattoo removing thingy).
It really depends on the individual's conviction of the Holy Spirit, if you have no problem with it, carry on. If it really bugs you to not get inked on, then don't.
I just think that before we reply to something we must read the entire scripture and understand what is said. you cant quote one part and leave out the rest. As for me, i think what matters is a changed heart, If i make a tatoo that honours God i dont see it as being wrong. But the key here is if you feel that is is wrong dont do it because the bible says if you go against your heart you are sinning, i have paraphrased is though i cant remember where the scripture is. The is also a dvd by Louie Giglio on this subject of tatoos
I am very grateful to God for this thread! I'd wanted to ask this question but could not paste the question as hard as I tried. I do have a witness 'cos I asked a sister on this forum to help me out. But the good Lord, who sees our hearts saw through my questioning heart and made someone who's more computer savvy ask the same question, indeed......4There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. [Ephesians 4:4-6].
This thread has completely helped me to clarify all I need to know in the light of God's Holy words. Thanks everyone.
