ERITREA – Imprisoned Christian Woman Dies in Prison

On July 23, an Eritrean Christian woman, Azieb Simon, died of malaria in the Wi’a Military Training Center after being imprisoned and tortured for months. According to Compass Direct News, “Simon, a member of the Kale-Hiwet Church in Assab, was weakened by the mistreatment she sustained since her arrest in December, 2006. Authorities reportedly refused to treat her for the disease, which she contracted only a week prior to her death. Other Christians imprisoned in the center are under constant pressure to recant their faith.”

Meanwhile, earlier this month, in the port city of Assab, 32 Christians were imprisoned and taken to Wi'a MilitaryTraining Center. Ask God to fill those who mourn for Azieb with a peace that surpasses understanding in the midst of their grief. Pray for the safety of those still in prison and for their quick release. Pray that Eritrean Christians will remain faithful in the face of pressure to deny Christ.

There is so much abuse in Eritrea, and I extend this thread to ask that once you finish reading this post, please take time to pray for the whole nation of Eritrea, lifting up your prayers in faith to the Lord that He will send change to Eritrea... that the oppression of the people will cease permanently and that His name will be glorified in the towns and streets, that the children will be safe and happy, and the broken lives restored in Christ....

Let us pray for those persecuted, even some martyred. You don't hear about these devastating news on your local CNN or Fox news network. You'll only find this in Christian news publications. I feel sorry for them, but yet they have their reward in Heaven. This believing woman who died is in Heaven with Jesus. Her pain was clearly something none of would fathom going through, yet it was still like the wind passing in comparison to her eternity with Jesus Christ our GOD.

"But they desired a better country, that is an heavenly; therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He hath prepared for them a city"

What precious words are these which relate to these many over the years, who gave mortal life its-self

"of whom the world was not worthy" They desired a better country.......looked for a city whose maker and builder is God.

Our Lord Jesus said....

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake:

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely,

I too have recently seen a video clip of a man tortured and still in prison today in Eritrea for refusing to stop reading the Word. The people their call the bible the "dangerous book" because if you are caught reading or professing it you get into trouble immediatley and big trouble! It truly is a miracle that we can go to the most public place, open the bible and if we choose even read it aloud, and what will happent to us, perhaps gather a crowd to listen or get some wierd looks, but certainly not dragged off and tortured. It is truly a miracle every time we open our bibles.

This video was brought to us through 'open doors' ministries and it touched me to the core. I must confess that I do get scared thinking how I would react if that were me? So yes yes yes Father God I pray with all my heart and all the passion I have in me strengthen your people with your courage, give them oil of joy for mourning, may they stay sooooo focused on you Jesus King of kings lover of their souls, Yes Lord how precious is the death of your saints to you.

Father I lift that country up to you, May your Word never be stopped or even slowed down give us all courage in our hearts to die for you our King, in Jesus name Amen

Just a question, am I thinking of the same place? Is Eritrea in Saudi Arabia?
