Hi Carrie,
I don't think taking them is wrong. I am one that took them for a short period of time, while healing and then came off of them. I don't take anything now. It took several years of changing my focus, journaling, and retraining the way I think in order to create a different state of being. I am still working on that everyday. Alot of Prayer, especially for others seems to help and putting my total Trust in God even when things seem very, very DARK. (Prayway community online is a really nice place to pray for others everyday along with requests from your local church.)
There are alot of things that can be done naturally to overcome depression, and mood swings. It takes a huge commitment and alot of work. My sister is also one who still takes them and her struggle has been the expense and the many side effects that are involved with taking them over a long period of time.
I have learned so much about how to overcome this darkness naturally and I can really say that I give God all the praise for helping me through it. I am eternally grateful.
God Bless YOU and keep seeking.
