what a strange poem
what do you mean
When you asked The Lord to stay
You left Him in the hall
And got on with your busy life
Not bothering Him at all
Then suddenly you opened up
A door and let Him in
You let a stronghold of your life
Be cleansed of fear and sin.
But still you kept things to yourself
Afraid to let them go
And even though they ruled your life
Against the tide you'd row
Finally , you had enough
And let The light come in
Another stronghold of your life
Was cleansed of fear and sin.
After year's of yielding self
Your doors were opened wide
You were the one who people saw
With nothing left to hide
If only you had trusted Him
And left the door's ajar
All the strongholds of your life
Would not have got this far.
Walk along the narrow way
A hurdle comes in view
It seems so insurmountable
What do you tend to do
Do you turn around and go
Back where your walk began
Or stay within the shadows
And do the best you can.
Reach up to the outstretched hand
Held by The One who came
To help us with our problems
Our bitterness and shame
He has the answers to our needs
With tenderness He seals
The wounds that life has left us with
Just praise Him as He heals.
I've tried to give you everything
I even gave My Son
Provided you a blessed life
Admired by everyone
Receiving seems to be your thing
But giving is a chore
You do not spread My wealth around
That's what My wealth is for.
You ask for gifts of healing
For prophecy and such
But you don't really trust Me
You love your wealth too much
I've a vision for this place
That only you can grant
Take me at My solemn word
There's no such word as can't.
I love a cheerful giver
I state that in My word
I will keep you all afloat
If you give undeterred
The devil has a stronghold
he hates it when we give
Kick the cretin into touch
And through Me learn to live.
Imagine cowering in the wind
Watching as your life dissolves
Though you're screaming out in pain
Still the wheel of fate revolves
All that's left is washed away
As the waves come rushing in
Is there any future left?
Will you let disaster win?
Those without The Lord are lost
There's no everlasting life
World that's built upon the sand
Crumbles sadly into strife
We're the army of The King
We can show the world His light
Laying down our selfish lives
He can use us in their plight.
Stumbling through the wilderness
I've reached a wall so high
Preventing me from going on
I can no longer lie
About the way that I have changed
I thought my past was dead
But still I am my selfish self
I am myself instead.
True, some parts have been refined
Strongholds have been broke
My head is full of victory
My heart is still a joke
Calcified by years of me
Unable to be soft
Lord I cry out in my pain
I hold it all aloft.
How can I tell You how good I feel
Knowing that my walk with You is real
No longer having to strive and strain
I can relax in Your cleansing rain
Washing me daily of worldly grime
Arms reaching out for that special time
Spent with One who has given all
My strong support whenever I fall
Oh how I long to see Your face
Full of compassion, clothed in grace
You are the One who is worth it all
I patiently await Your call
Cleanse me deeply from within
All the things that cause my sin
Jettison and make me whole
Prepare me for Your heavenly role.
When you asked The Lord to stay
You left Him in the hall
And got on with your busy life
Not bothering Him at all
Then suddenly you opened up
A door and let Him in
You let a stronghold of your life
Be cleansed of fear and sin.
