I am definatly interested in this topic. I am over weight - I won't be posting my weight, though. ;)

I see in my own life that there is a spiritual/emotional connection to my eating/weight. Most of the time for me, my eating is crazy when I'm not trusting the Lord. I hate to admit it but it's true. I am sometimes able to go to God first, but sad to say that often it's after I've downed whatever food to still those uncomfortable feelings. Paul talked about doing the things you don't want to do and not doing those that we do want to do... I am not unwise in thinking that I am not accountable, yet at times (even after years of healing) I sometimes go into a zone and notice afterwards or right in the middle. At least in the middle I can often choose to stop. When we are weak Jesus is strong. My family struggles with food for generations. And I have prayed asking the Lord to break those curses/ties etc. once and for all.

I've had seasons where I ate well and walked a lot. And was in a really healthy place. Those times I thought for sure that the struggle was over and I was free. But then in some cases I let things slip in and others it just happened. I am currently exercising at a ladies gym 3x's a week and walking as well. It's the food that is the problem and not getting into drinking the 64 + ounces of water that I know is so good for me. I had quit eating after 8 p.m. and in truth I had gained weight in that time. I know that there is no "magic pill" to change my weight for the long haul. We've been adding good for us food, brown rice, whole wheat pasta... we've always eaten fresh fruit and veggies & Whole wheat bread. It's the other stuff that I struggle with like peanut butter, perserves, choc. chips, icing. (weird sounding I know but I'm trying to not keep sweets/junk in the house so I've found myself going for these things). I don't keep ice cream in the house as that won't last.

My guess is that the Lord is doing stuff in me that I don't really know or understand. Yet I hold fast to Him the author and perfector of my faith. I've been job hunting for about a year, my mom won't be in contact with me except for e-mail forwards (she's written off my other sister as well years ago). Sad.

So yes, I too would like to read what others have to write on this topic. Thank you.

Blessings,
Truedawn

Know ye not that ye are the temple of the Holy Spirit? And if you destroy this temple God will destroy you! I Corithians 3:17
I believe that if we get a deep seated revelation of the fact that we(the individual) is actually the church. Not your building, ministry or denomination; we will walk in the deepest purity possible out of reverence for who is literally living in us! We must take care of our bodies! McDonalds kills just as quickly as Newport and Marlboro. It all boils down to a serious desperate need for the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord to fall on this earth

"Are you truly a Spirit-filled Christian? Does the term "Spirit-filled"
describe your doctrine or your devotion?"

I am about 75 pounds overweight, I would be happy to cut that in half. I have to tell you what God seemed to be speaking to me.
The fruit of the Spirit is just that- fruit. not fruits, it's indivisible, can't have one without all of them. Well, I'm all for joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness... but then there's self control. God put it on my heart to lose weight, not so much as to feel better, look better, even live longer, but because I need to work on my self control.
That was a big wakeup call for me, and I have been focused on it ever since. I haven't lost much, in the overall scheme of things, I don't let it consume my life, but I am more aware. I have joined a gym, stopped drinking soda, and tried not to eat after 7 pm.
I have found that I actually enjoy the gym because I play sports and my endurance is up. I knew from the beginning that this was for my good, but it's wonderful to have great side effects as well.

Hi Eph. 4,

Thank you for sharing where you are at... sounds like some good things are happening there. :)

I am wondering if you know a site that I can check out to find out what is a good weight for my height (balanced report). I don't need to be a skinny one but healthy. Happy day to all!

Blessings,
Truedawn

Rachel15,
you said that you are ashamed of you appearance but you are worried about people seeing you well sister please don't be.

No one has the right to judge us but God and I am sure He wont mind if your getting into better shape and making yourself feel happy about your appearance at the same time.

Be strong sister!

I don't know any sites off the top of my head, every one has a different way to do things where they're trying to make money you know.
Is it possible for you to remember a time when you think back and say to yourself, I felt good back then, I liked how I looked, I felt confident?
Perhaps, if it is reasonable, it is a good idea to try that. Maybe a couple dress sizes would make all the difference. It would for me. I know that my 'ideal' weight is about 130, but I'll never be there. I enjoy good food too much, so it's not realistic. But to be about 160-170 should be reasonable, so that's actually my goal (and a few dress sizes).
If any one knows of a good- free site to check out it would be appreciated!!
God Bless us all in our endeavors

I believe this is a topic that is so important. For some, obesity is not just something that you live with, its an everyday fight, an everyday cross to bear! Just as there are addictions out there to other substances, so, food can also become an addiction, that the 'user' uses to fulfill often hidden emotional hungers.
The problem with food addiction is that it so obvious. It can be easy to hide a drug addiction or even a porn addiction but when you are fat, everyone can see.
We truly do battle with our flesh daily, and the fight to keep our flesh in submission, for some is a thorn in the flesh that few understand.

Texas sized to the fullest, but thank God there came a point where I really had a desire to lose weight, and in a matter of months I dropped down to a low of 196 lbs, which at my height is very skinny. Right now I am at about 218 lbs which is my normal weight, but still trying to get into better shape. Also I want to get married so that is also motivation to stay in shape. But I'd like to hear from other Christians on this site on this topic.

**Edited to avoid confusion***
Hey Big Brother

How did you do it. I am getting so overweight it has become an embarrassment. Not going into details but I would be pleased to hear from you. How did you?

I would like to loss to like 20 or 26 pound because I'm like 150 and want to be like around 126-130 and that’s also normal for my hights and age but I feel a bit choppy but I just need to get in shape that is all to what I know even breathing hard when running and remember how I was a bit skinny and want be like that again LOOOL. I' m not over weight just normal.

The things that bugs me out is that in my church they say is ok to stay fat because God may you that way. I have to disagree because being very fat is not healthy at all but having some fat is healthy but having to much is very bad and some sort of toxics in your body and causing to age faster. Also very under weight is also not healthy like I think Paris Hilton need some meat LOL but she still look pretty but I don‘t think that healthy at all either is like we need a real balance size and weight in our body. That does seem worse then smoking.

Im with JChrist all da way baby24/7all day and everyday ya hear
