False ways to be saved

I found this very eye opening to what most preachers teach today on how to be saved.

<HR style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #d1d1e1; COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->

Many churches present a salvation invitation or altar call that is not the complete gospel as given in the Bible. Baptismal regeneration is not the gospel in this Dispensation of Grace. The Apostle Paul warned us about other gospels and false gospels. These incomplete gospel messages do not result in eternal salvation for the person responding. The following are some examples of incorrect or incomplete salvation invitations.
  • Invite Jesus into your heart This doctrine is not in the Bible
  • Believe Jesus died for your sins and be saved Faith in the resurrection is missing
  • Come forward and receive Jesus This invitation is not the gospel in the Bible
  • Give your heart to Jesus."This is a false gospel that will not bring eternal life
  • Come to Jesus to get your sins forgivenYour sins were forgiven 2000 years ago.
  • Be baptized for the remission of sins No. Baptism does not remove sin
  • Life is in the blood of Jesus."No. Eternal life is by faith in the resurrection
  • Personal relationship with Jesus."This phrase is not in the bible. What kind?
  • God elects those whom He saves." This false doctrine is not in the Bible.

Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you--unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures

Galatians 1:8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. 11 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. 12 For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ

Romans 4:25 (Jesus Christ) Who was delivered for our offenses, and was raised again for our justification

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life (resurrection)

Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame

Scripture does not teach that salvation is accomplished by having one's sins forgiven. Most Christian churches teach the false doctrine of effectual forgiveness. They teach that sins are not forgiven until one believes Jesus died for their sins. They falsely believe that having one's sins forgive equates to being saved. The effectual forgiveness doctrine is not in the Bible. Actually, the Bible teaches just the opposite. While we were enemies of God (meaning unsaved) we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son. It does not require faith to be reconciled to God as many churches falsely teach. Reconciliation does not mean one is saved as these churches teach. It means the enmity between man of God as a result of Adam's transgressions has been reversed, and the sins of the whole world have been forgiven. One is saved by sincere faith in the bodily resurrection of Jesus. We are spiritually baptized with the filling of the Holy Spirit upon our salvation to eternal life

Are the sins of all men forgiven?

In Romans 4:25 we see the separation between the forgiveness of sin and salvation. Jesus was delivered up and crucified for the forgiveness of our sin, and He was raised from the dead to provide the way of salvation. The only sin which has not been forgiven is the sin of unbelief in Jesus Christ's death and resurrection. This has been called by some as the "unforgivable sin."[

Many churches teach Romans 10:13 as the gospel, "For 'whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'" This verse is a summation of the gospel as presented in Romans 10:9 above but should not be presented as the gospel
The correct and complete gospel is presented in the Bible verses above, not in these common church invitations. We are to have a deep faith and truly believe that Jesus was God in the flesh, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for the sins of the whole world, resurrected by the Father to give us eternal life, and Jesus ascended to the right hand of the Father where He is our advocate and makes intercession for us. You are saved by receiving the indwelling of the Holy Spirit upon faith in these gospel truths. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast

Jesus said, Matthew 7:13 "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide [is] the gate and broad [is] the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it." 14 "Because narrow [is] the gate and difficult [is] the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Jesus also said, Matthew 7:22 "Many will say to Me in that day, `Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' 23 "And then I will declare to them, `I never knew you ; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'

Jesus said the way is "narrow" and "difficult." Who are these people who say "Lord, Lord" that Jesus is referring to? They certainly are not atheists who will obviously spend eternity in hell. Jesus is talking about people who fail to understand His gospel. Jesus is talking about many people who attend church every Sunday but simply think inviting Jesus into their heart was the gospel. Jesus is talking about TV evangelists who beg for money and present an incomplete gospel message that leaves out the resurrection. Jesus is talking about people whose improper prayer is not heard by God. These people are all on the broad way that leads to destruction as Jesus promised.

Eph 3:6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:

2Ti 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

Heb 9:20 Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.

1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

WE get salvation from our heart , which is our spirit!

Rom 2:29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit,

salvation could not be made any easier !
But we must give All we are and have to be Born -Again !

HE will not enter into us unless we Allow HIM , His proper place as LORD of All !

This is an excellent thread!

I have been watching many Paul Washer sermons and he is passionate about such dangerous beliefs that lead people to believe they are truly saved, when in all reality they are not!

They say the prayer and continue living in their sin (not repenting) thinking that its always forgiven. That's not how it works!

It does not require faith to be reconciled to God as many churches falsely teach.

If salvation is automatic for all human beings, as you seem to believe, why did the apostle Peter - filled with the Holy Spirit - tell the people, "Repent and be baptised every one of you for the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off - for all whom the Lord our God will call." (Ac 2:38-39 NIV)

If all humans are going to heaven, who needs to repent of anything? Under your doctrine, Jesus is the Great Enabler who sweeps all our sins "under the rug" and thereby gives tacit approval to sin by not punishing the unrepentant.

Thank you for your thread, Bible Man. It was especially interesting to me because I have been trying to talk to some of my friends about when I surrendered my life to God. I especially liked the bullet points you made:

I thought about using some of these phrases like "inviting Jesus into your heart," or "giving your heart to Jesus," even "personal relationship with Jesus." But, they just did not express what I really did when my life was changed forever.

It all has to do with the heart. You have to try to get the person to express from his heart to Father what it is he really wants in order for a connection to be made between himself and Jesus. It's like they have to build a bridge between themselves and Jesus by expressing what is in their heart . . . their longing for a touch from Him . . . and then they can cross over. Or is it that Jesus crosses over?

I like to think (course it's probably not in the Bible) that God hears the cry of your heart and that's when you get that response you are longing for, that answer you've been waiting for. Not just that "and God bless mommy and daddy . . . ." type prayer. Just a simple cry out to Father to help you, cause you're drowning, wil get His attention. I don't know if this is sound or not, it's just the way I feel.

Thanx for making us think. I really need to reach out to my friends and I need to get through to them with the help of the Spirit's drawing.

False ways to be saved.
Well just say the magic words and bing your saved intellectually. in the door of heaven right?
Without the sinner realizing Gods wrath against sin without the sinner being convicted to bring about repentance for Jesus to be ones Lord.
Just include everyone into Christianity without God being exclusive about the individuals need, in being separated from God because of sin. No need for a savior to be ones Lord required just say the magic words.

False ways to be saved thread wow.

Sadly many religious people try to complicate things for those seeking.

# Invite Jesus into your heart This doctrine is not in the Bible
Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

# Believe Jesus died for your sins and be saved Faith in the resurrection is missing

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Act 15:11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

Act 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Rom 4:24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

# Come forward and receive Jesus This invitation is not the gospel in the Bible
Picking nits gets no one into heaven; Forward , on your knees, at home, what difference does it make? However publlic confession is 100% scriptural:
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Luk 12:8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:

Mat 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

# Give your heart to Jesus."This is a false gospel that will not bring eternal life
Heart, spirit, inner man, what's the difference?
Eph 3:16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
Eph 3:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

# Come to Jesus to get your sins forgivenYour sins were forgiven 2000 years ago.

Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Mat 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
Mat 27:51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

1Jn 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Rev 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

Eph 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Eph 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

Rom 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

1Co 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Joh 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

# Be baptized for the remission of sins No. Baptism does not remove sin
You seem confused on what the scripture is talking about:

Luk 3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

1Pe 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Jesus came to baptize in the Holy Ghost and fire. Immersion in Christ- to be found in Christ baptized in the Holy Spirit.
Act 1:5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

# Life is in the blood of Jesus."No. Eternal life is by faith in the resurrection
Without the shed blood of Christ applied to the Mercy seat there is no atonement and thus faith in what? Jesus came to shed His blood that the way between man and God would be opened.

Heb 9:7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
Heb 9:8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
Heb 9:9 Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
Heb 9:10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.
Heb 9:11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
Heb 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Heb 9:13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
Heb 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Heb 9:15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
Heb 9:16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.

Heb 9:17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
Heb 9:18 Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.
Heb 9:19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and
hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,
Heb 9:20 Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.
Heb 9:21 Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.

Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
Heb 9:23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
Heb 9:24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
Heb 9:25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;
Heb 9:26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

# Personal relationship with Jesus."This phrase is not in the bible. What kind?
The relationship of friend, brother, high priest, a fellow heir with God, a son of God. It is almost impossible to miss the fact that man was created for fellowship and interaction with God. Jesus Christ came specifically to restore our relationship with God the Father, to be our Intercessor and High Priest.

1Co 1:9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Gal 4:7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Joh 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Joh 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

# God elects those whom He saves." This false doctrine is not in the Bible.
Scripture disagrees with you- we are elect, (predestinated according to foreknowledge)
Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Rom 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

1Pe 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

No blood sacrifice, then no born again experience and nothing to have faith in. No son-ship (relationship) then what is the point of being made an heir with Christ?

Straining at gnats many swallow camels.
Jesus made it quite simple for us to enter into all the benefits your doctrine seems to have discarded.

Many blessings in Jesus wonderful Name,
Larry.

btw- you should credit the author.

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Jas 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

he gave all a measure of faith so all mankind could be saved

Interesting thread on salvation and very good!

It mentions repentance and i wondered if someone was truly repentant (turning away from their sinful life) then they would cease to continue to do that which is offensive to God?

Conversely, otherwise it is not true repentance.

True but even the ability to repent is only by the grace of God my friend.

So, Bo, you are saying "even the ability to repent is only by the grace of God." What does that person look like? Is he someone who is incapable of repenting? And why would he be unwilling to repent? Unless, perhaps he has too much confidence that he can reach an understanding of God and attain salvation in his ownself. Perhaps because of pride in his own abilities?

As an example, my own mother told someone she was not a sinner, she had never sinned and infact she didn't believe in sin as such. She was Christian Scientist. But she believed she had it in herself to even heal her own body. Would this be the kind of person who was incapable of repenting?

In the book of Jeremiah it says -The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?-
We cant know it but if we acknowledge it in seeking mercy from Holy God asking for his grace by calling on His Son the Lord Jesus Mr. Self a.k.a. the devil loses a disobedient son and repentance is gain in that heart to want the things of God that brought about salvation in the first place because Jesus is now inside self, new nature, (he's cracked the egg :) now leans on Jesus to lead!
So when it comes to an intellectual understanding of trying to attain a relationship it wont happen!
If it comes to trying to figure out another way it wont happen, your only trying to sneak into heaven through another way without walking through the front door that door being the Lord Jesus Christ and our need of him through repentance for why he came to this earth.

And so we can do offensive things but because the relationship is established we know we are grieving God because of the Holy Spirit. Our offense will become less and less we as children grow up and mature in _____ - fill in the blank.

The answer being Christ! We learn to present our bodies as living sacrifices holy and acceptable to God!

True but even the ability to repent is only by the grace of God my friend.

Yes indeed, It is all dependent on what God does or God is doing. Tis all His work and His doing if He is sovereign. To think otherwise is to question God's sovereignty.

For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and by him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of his blood on the cross.Col. 1:19&20 NLT

Notice it was God who reconciled us and made peace with us. Not the other way around.

Encountering Christ via HolySpirit is what leads to repentance and not the other way around. We love Him because He first loved us.

Perhaps the word "option" should be substituted for "ability", for it is by the saving work of Jesus on the cross that we have the option of repenting.

Sadly, there are many false claims to salvation which leave the recipients with no guarantee of salvation and in uncertainty.

One such claim is the following:

Ro 10:9 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

1. This letter ("Romans") and all of the other epistles after Acts were written to "saints". That is, those who were already saved ! What relevance, therefore, does the above scripture have for the unsaved ?

2. No where in scripture are we given any example of anyone using these words for salvation.

3. I, and countless others neither, confessed with our mouth and nor did we believe in our hearts that God had raised Jesus from the dead, and yet were saved !! We were saved when we received the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues. This in itself proves conclusively that the above scripture has no relevance to the unbeliever and therefore offers no guarantee of salvation !!

Those that make such claims as the one above are playing with eternal fire.

They were written to the called and the elect! All the Elect were once called all the called do not become the Elect!
I seen on the net a lot lately! People saying the bibles not true or they use scriptures in the wrong way!
Many now preaching Jesus Christ our LORD , was a sinner at His birth! It a serious LIE!
Many are Called few chosen! Because few Will allow Him to LORD over there entire lives and All they have!

Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

1Pe 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

Rom 14:7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself
