First of all, I just have to say what joy it brings to me to see someone seeking the Lord with their own heart, breaking free from the binds of their past and ready to walk their own walk. Welcome to a new life. Be prepared to feel the love. ;)
I would just like to re-emphasize the points made by jiggyfly and Janette. I would definitely vote that a non-denominational church would be the way to go. And I would also remind that being a Christian is not being religious... and therefore, as jiggyfly said, the church is not the point. The church is just an awesome place to go to be with other Christians (fellowship), and to learn about the Word. After all, church is the only place a Christian can go and be in the majority! Everywhere else is the battlefield. So I would probably say that church is wonderful as a support system.
But again, please understand that the building we walk into on Sunday morning is not what saved us. I would be careful not to fall into ritualism, etc. It's a relationship with God through the sacrifice of Jesus, a spiritual walk that you will find yourself on just for having sought God with your own heart. That relationship has always been available to you and is available to you right now where you sit. Talk to God, he hears you.
Jesus has loved you since conception and He is eager to embrace you. You will learn about that in scripture... and more importantly, you will feel it in your spirit. Please keep us updated.
