The Bible tells us that only people who have taken the mark of the beast will be able to buy and sell. We can see a glimpse of this already in places such as China where believers who do not belong to the government recognized Christian churches, are unable to buy and sell.

This does not apply to every aspect their lives but with regard to the operation of their churches which are considered illegal. Members of the Pentecostal group I belong to are afraid to have their photos put on the interent for fear of persecution by Chinese authorities.

In a time of national emergency, if your church was required to be registered as a member of a body such as WCC to be granted government approval to function, would you go along with it? Those who have the mark in their 'forehead' will because they believe it is right. Those who have the mark in their 'right hand' will cooperate for the sake of convenience.

The title does add up to 666 in the only numeric letters that most people understand - Latin.

there is in fact out of all the hats the pope wears only one that has this inscription and you may be right i have not actually looked into this for a long time and they may not wear it anymore but they did even up to John paul. plus the name actually adds up to 666 in three numerical languages. but I must say that there are many names or words/phrases that add to this number. the only interesting thing about this one is the fact of where it is situated and once more the Bible prophecy makes it clear that the papacy or catholic organisation is one of the beasts mentioned in both daniel and revelation. so when refering to 666 it must some how apply to this organisation and it does.

Revelation 13:1-8, 16-18 provides 11 identifying characteristics of the beast most of the daniel prophecies give a lot of characteristics to help and are in corelation with Revelation Daniel 7 its quite a big study I am willing to put a post explaining it if anyone wants to see where I come from on this.

Here are a few ideas I have looked at on this subject.

The Beast:

1. He is a man (Rev 13:18).
2. He has a throne and great authority (Rev 13:2)
3. His position has a continuing succession (Rev 17:8 - “was, and is not, and yet is”)
4. He comes out of the old Roman Empire (Rev 13:2; 13:12; 17:11).
5. He bears names of blasphemy (Rev 17:3; eg John 17:11 "Holy Father")
6. One of these names/titles can be used to calculate the number 666 (Rev 13:18 - Vicarivs Filii Dei)

7. He is associated with a city that
- sits on seven hills (Rev 17:9)
- is clothed in purple and scarlet (Rev 17:4)
- decked with gold and precious stones and pearls (Rev 17:4)
- has influence over people in many countries (Rev 17:15)
- has had dealings with the kings of the earth (Rev 17:18)
- has been responsible for killing martyrs for Jesus (Rev 17:6; 18:24)
- is called a “great whore”, in contrast to the “chaste virgin” (2 Cor 11:2), and the Lamb’s wife (Rev 19:7-8)
- is called a “mother of harlots” - daughters (churches) like herself (Rev 17:5)

I think it is clear from these and other indications, that the city is the Vatican, and the beast is the papacy. Some Popes have been notably good, but there have also been those who were corrupt and debauched. In the future, I believe such a man will gain control of the papacy.

Paul tells us that the 'man of sin' will sit in the 'temple of God', pretending to be God (2 Thes 2:3-4) . Elsewhere Paul refers to the 'temple' as the Christian Church (Eph 2:21-22). This man will be claiming reverence due only to God (kneeling before him; being called holy; making infallible statements; etc).

Daniel adds some further interesting details, one of which some understand to be support for a celibate priesthood (Daniel 11:37).

The main passage in the Bible that mentions the "mark of the beast" is Revelation 13:15-18. Other references can be found in Revelation 14:9,11; 15:2; 16:2; 19:20; 20:4. This mark acts as a "seal" for the followers of antichrist and the false prophet (the spokesperson for the antichrist). The false prophet (the second beast) is the one who causes people to take this mark. The mark is literally placed in the hand or forehead, and is not simply a card someone carries.

It is likely that the technology we are seeing today represents the beginning stages of what may eventually be used as the "mark of the beast."

It is important for us to realize that a medical implant chip is not the mark of the beast. The mark of the beast will be something given only to those who worship the antichrist. Having a medical or financial microchip inserted into your right hand or forehead is not the mark of the beast. The mark of the beast will be an end times "mark" required by the antichrist to buy or sell and will be given only to those who worship the antichrist.

Many good expositors of Revelation have differed widely as to what exactly the mark of the beast is. Besides the "ID card" view, others have speculated that it is a microchip, a barcode that is tattooed into the skin, or simply a mark that identifies someone as being faithful to the antichrist's kingdom. This last view requires the least speculation, since it does not add any more information to what the Bible gives us. We shouldn't spend a lot of time speculating on the details that go further than the Bible goes.

The meaning of 666 is a mystery as well. Recently, many people speculated that there was a connection to June 6, 2006—06/06/06. However, in Revelation chapter 13, the number 666 identifies a person, not a date. Revelation 13:18 tells us, "This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666." Somehow, the number 666 will identify the antichrist. For centuries Bible interpreters have been trying to identify certain individuals with 666. Nothing is conclusive. That is why Revelation 13:18 says the number requires wisdom. When the antichrist is revealed (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4), it will be clear who he is and how the number 666 identifies him.

I agree here as well, but not for certain, there is still some mystery here.
But i think that technology and the Antichrist is going to bring this to pass. Putting a mark on all men was impossible just 50 years ago, now it is possible. Just like it was impossible for all the world to see two dead prophets lieing in the streets. But through TV and the media this is now a reality.

And when it says all, don't go into the Amazon forest and say ah ha, this tribe didnt take the mark of the beast, or see the dead prophets. Why? because they don't have access to media or TV and some don't buy and sell, they live off the land. God will likely judge them according to their knowledge. So for now i believe this will be a literal mark.

Well, you this is my opinion...this is a touchy subject. We know that it says in the Bible not to cut or tattoo your body. I think this is in old testament and Jesus came to forgive us ....Thank you Jesus. My point is. I truly believe that you won't be able to buy sell or trade with out this mark in the fore head or right hand...this is real. It also says that some will be tricked into taking it. .I may be wrong but God help me .....I am not taking that micro chip.

Just a couple things. I agree with you that chip implant technology may be setting up for the mark, but a medical implant is not the mark of the beast. However, consider that the word "worship" means "serve"; so any who are submitted to his system, either delieberately or by deception will be marked. It will be a financial decision for most, not religious. It will of course have spiritual ramifications.

Secondly, the "he" that causes people to take the mark is actually (read carefully context) the image of the beast. An interesting thing about this image. It will be given a voice, and will cause people to take the mark. Seems like a living entity, right? Yet, later, when God casts the devil, the beast, and the false prophet into the lake of fire, what happens to the image? Maybe it just needs to be unplugged?

Also, its unfortunate that our modern translations read "666", because people think its a trinity of sixes. That's not even close to what John wrote. He said that the number was the number of a man's name, and that number was six hundred (600), three score (60), and six(6). The Greek that John wrote the book of Revelation in, like many ancient languages, used letters for their numbering system, including also Hebrew and Aramaic (the other two original biblical languages). If you write those numbers that John wrote in all three of the biblical languages, you are writing the name of a man. That man is Nero Caesar. If that doesn't make you curious, you're not paying attention. There are a few (probably more that I don't know about) possibilities. Either Nero is literally brought back to life. He was killed by a sword wound to the head. Another possibility is that the same spirit that possessed the evil Roman emperor will abide in this man to come. Nero went insane because he could not crush Christianity. He even had his mother executed because she had converted. He, like all the Caesars, proclaimed himself deity.

The point about the number is that the Bible does not say what the mark is. But a lot of people will be looking for something about "666". That number was not given to everyone to plainly identify the beast. If it was that simple, even unbelievers would resist his system. The Bible says that he will be able to seduce and deceive many, even some elect (Christians).

The antichrist won't be a religious leader, or probably even a religious man at all. His platform and power will be economic.

I believe the 2 witnesses are Enoch and Elijah because they were the only two men who didn't die, but they were taken up to heaven. The reason why it should be those 2 men is because, they didn't die. According to the bible, every man should die once and then they should be judged.

Hebrews 9:27: And just as it is destined that each person dies only once and after that comes judgment

So they will come to earth and they will be clothed in sack cloth and they will prophecy for 3 and a half years (Revelation 11: 3-11) and after that, they will be killed. 3 and a half days after they are killed, they will be ressurected and they will be taken to heaven.

After this, the angel blows the 7th trumpet (Revelation 11:15-19) and then the Anti-Christ will be revealed.
