Global Warming and Revelation 11:18 - 06-04-06, 07:16 PM

Hello Folks,

Has anyone any thoughts on global warming? There is a little verse in the book of Revelation about those who destroy the earth being judged by God. Revelation 11:18.

At the present rate of global warming we could lose many of the worlds capitals including Washinton, New York and Boston to the sea. Extreme weather could make parts of the world virtually uninhabitable – THIS IS AREADY HAPPENING – droughts are becoming more frequent as are violent storms. The potential for loss of life and property is enormous.
This makes the dangers posed by Islamic terrorist look shall change in comparison.

Blessings,

Tonyb

Revelation 11:18

18The nations raged,
but your wrath came,
and the time for the dead to be judged,
and for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints,
and those who fear your name,
both small and great,
and for destroying the destroyers of the earth."

I do not see anything that has to do with natural disasters or such in the above verse you referrenced. Please point tihs out.

Matthew Henry's Commentary: Revelation 11

Michael and his angels fight against the devil and his angels, who are defeated.

In the time of treading down, God kept his faithful witnesses to attest the truth of his word and worship, and the excellence of his ways, The number of these witnesses is small, yet enough. They prophesy in sackcloth. It shows their afflicted, persecuted state, and deep sorrow for the abominations against which they protested. They are supported during their great and hard work, till it is done. When they had prophesied in sackcloth the greatest part of 1260 years, antichrist, the
great instrument of the devil, would war against them, with force and violence for a time.

Determined rebels against the light rejoice, as on some happy event, when they can silence, drive to a distance, or destroy the faithful servants of Christ, whose doctrine and conduct torment them. It does not appear that the term is yet expired, and the witnesses are not a present exposed to endure such terrible outward sufferings as in former times; but such things may again happen, and there is abundant cause to prophesy in sackcloth, on account of the state of religion.

The depressed state of real Christianity may relate only to the western church. The Spirit of life from God, quickens dead souls, and shall quicken the dead bodies of his people, and his dying interest in the world. The revival of God's work and witnesses, will strike terror into the souls of his enemies. Where there is guilt, there is fear; and a persecuting spirit, though cruel, is a cowardly spirit. It will be no
small part of the punishment of persecutors, both in this world, and at the great day, that they see the faithful servants of God honoured and advanced.

The Lord's witnesses must not be weary of suffering and service, nor hastily grasp at the reward; but must stay till their Master calls them. The consequence of their being thus exalted was a mighty shock and convulsion in the antichristian empire. Events alone can show the meaning of this. But whenever God's work and witnesses revive, the
devil's work and witnesses fall before him. And that the slaying of the witnesses is future, appears to be probable. (Rev 11:14-19)

Hi Chad, I'll write a full replay in due time, but I'm going to have to do some research first. The part of the prophecy I'd like to draw people attention to is: NIV Verse 18 The nations were angry; and your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead,... ... and for destroying those who destroy the earth."

As you say it has nothing to do with natural disasters, but does have every thing to do with man made disasters. Those who are destroying the earth, land, territory, are men. They are doing this largely through carbon emission's, green house gasses etc. I have an idea that all this may tie in with the mother of harlots, and those who are destroying the earth are her children. It would certainly seem to be a form of harlotry in the sense that the earth and many of the people of the earth are being destroyed for financial gain. If this does indeed prove to be true, there is nothing more despicable than that.

All the Really Smart People--Global Warming - 03-23-09, 10:46 AM

All the really smart people believe in man-made global warming.
Smart people believe in evolution too. Some of them also believe in God but certainly not one of them believes that men and dinosaurs lived together. Remember the laughs the smart people in politics and the media got out of Alaska governor Sarah Palin’s comments that she believed that man and dinosaurs had interacted? Maybe she could see dinosaurs from her back porch?

I think global warming is a serious problem that has profound moral aspects to it. I'd identify those aspects as massive human suffering. I don't know about that revelations quotation. It might be relevant, but I don't think that's the main thrust of what St. John was speaking of. Anyhow, I do think there's a theological aspect to the problems of global warming. Truly if on the last day we will answer Christ as to why we did not give him (and the least of these) water when He was thirsty. I should think there will be a much harder question about how we sat by and allowed billions of His brothers and sisters to die of thirst because we did not wish to change the least aspect of our decadent lives. Perhaps that is why it is so hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

All the Smart People... - 03-24-09, 12:53 PM

The point of the article on s8intcom blogger: All the Really Smart People Believe in Global Warming--which you can find using Google since I couldn't post links is; in the 1970's scientists were also sounding the alarm about the dire consequences of Global Temperature change--only the change was in the other direction--all the way through as late as 1977, scientists were sure that we were heading for an ice-age-spurred on because of man-made pollution.

This ice age would they warned cause untold starvation and hardship across the planet. Some scientists in the NY Times even speculated that pollution might be the only thing to save us from an ice age (by heating upthe planet)

The point--don't listen to consensus science and 2) the world will end with global warming all right--the elements will melt with fervent heat...

If I understand you correctly, the gist of your argument is that because the scientific community got something wrong in the past, we should disregard everything that scientists say.

Surely it would be better to examine critically what scientists say, and to weigh up the evidence as best we can.

The body of evidence for human activity as a cause for global warming is impressive, and new evidence is being added all the time.

How the world will end is not relevant to this discussion. We do not know when Christ will return. In the meantime it is our collective responsibility to care for all of God's creation.

It is pure arrogant, audacious, egotistical, and self righteous folly to suppose we, as human beings ..in
all our collective creative intellect and creations that have been made, can affect the planet 1 iota of difference
in global warming/climate change as scientists say.

The eruption of Mt Krakatoa, the meteor which hit the yucatan peninsula, and the big gigantic orb in
the sky called the sun, have a trillion more times more impact on the earth than anything
man in his arrogant thinking can imagine he can do.

BTW.. did you know the ice caps on Mars have been shrinking..
........ or the now three storms on Jupiter, instead of just one ..which scientists say
is because the planet has been warming..

But that's probably our fault too

I can't find it right now...but isn't there a place in the Bible where it says that it is GOD not man who will destroy the earth...as in the globe...in natural disasters...etc?

This verse, sister?

2Pe 3:10 KJVA But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

--- Eph 3:17 "That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, ...." ---
