Joh 6:26 Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Joh 6:27 Do not labor for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal." Joh 6:28 Then they said to him, "What must we do, to be doing the works of God?" Joh 6:29 Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent." Joh 6:30 So they said to him, "Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform? Joh 6:31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'" Joh 6:32 Jesus then said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. Joh 6:33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." Joh 6:34 They said to him, "Sir, give us this bread always." Joh 6:35 Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. Joh 6:36 But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. Joh 6:37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. |

This does raise another question for me, however... and I thought I'd add to the current thread rather than start a new one 'cos it is related to the 'lakeland revival'. I had an interesting discussion with one of my pastors the other day. She was encouraging me to take some 'young christians' (I am helping to disciple) to one of the 'revival meetings' when Todd Bentley comes to the UK in September. Her reasoning seems to be that if they witness miraculous healings, this will move them forward in their own walk with the Lord. At the time, I listened and nodded very politely. However, it does take me a while to process things sometimes: To a point, I do agree with her; I've seen some miraculous healings myself, very recently, and this has certainly hightened my expectation that God, by His Spirit, can and - indeed - will heal if He so wishes. However, the above extract from John 6 appears to be suggesting that some are not convinced by 'signs and wonders'. Moreover, in this passage, Jesus appears to be reluctant to perform miracles simply because the people are hungering after them whilst ignoring the 'gift giver', namely Himself!!!! Am I right in my interpretation of this passage?.... and if so, should I be cautious about encouraging my young christian friends to attend one of these aforesaid meetings? What do people think? |

YouTube - REAL REVIVAL - 1 of 4 - Asbury College 1970 "Beware of false prophets. They come to you disguised as sheep, but in their hearts they are vicious wolves" Matthew 7:15 "Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many." Matthew 24:11 "This is especially true of those who follow their corrupt nature along the path of impure desires and who despise the Lord's authority. These false teachers are bold and arrogant. They aren't afraid to insult the [Lord's] glory." 2 Peter 2:10 We need to stop lusting after miraculous things and signs and wonders, and start seeking repentance and salvation which comes through Jesus Christ alone, who alone gives anointing on our lives, and who alone will bless us when He sees fit, even if it we don't get anything that special on earth. You should still only seek Him and His Word alone. |

Thank you soooo much for this comment Servant: This is certainly one of the things that has been bothering me about this lakeland 'thing'.... and why I have been extremely reluctant to call it a 'revival'.....One of my favourite stories is set during the 'welsh revival'. Apparently loads of very distressed people turned up at a local police station... They went there 'cos they knew something was wrong. They just did not know where else to go!!! That's conviction of sin and repentence for you!!!!!.....That's revival!!! |
