Just recently I viewed a report of the Da Vinci Code on the Australian "60 Minutes program." I also viewed the film in our local cinema.
It was regarding the Da Vinci Code. It is amazing how sometimes the media tries to confuse the general public. In this 60 minutes program they were saying the Jesus was married to Mary and that they may also had children.
Do you think this is another way in which the non Christians are trying to ridicule the Christian faith? In my personal opinion, it is any chance for the business world to make money. By the sale of the movie etc...
This is just another case of persecution, evil against good. GOD always prevails in the end no matter what, and each held to their own on judgment day.
The central conciet of the story of the Da Vinci code, as I understand it, was that Jesus married Mary Magdalene and that either Mary Magdalene, or the supposed offspring from the supposed union, were what popularly became known from the Middle Ages onward as 'the Holy Grail'.
None of the ideas in the Da Vinci Code were new, since they all appeared in the 'factual' book 'The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail' - the authors of which took Dan Brown to court for plagerism.
Much of the popularity of the Da Vince Code came on the back of several publications of various translations of what tend to be called the Gnostic Gospels, or the Gospels which didn't make the 'final cut' (as one friend described it) - these include the 'Gospel of Mary Magdalene'.
I think money making is part of it - look at what the secular world does with Christmas
But a lot of it is about ignorence, secular liberal ideas, and an unfortunate tendancy for the Christian church to over-react to the wrong things.
Heck, I remember the fuss over the 'Life of Brian' Monty Python film. It was not the film that was the problem.
If the church as a whole were as vocal about the Gospel, about how Jesus treated women with respect and equality (because He died for our sins but showed us how to live too), and about the Love of Christ as they are about things like the Da Vince Code, the world would be a much better place.
On earth as it is in Heaven, and all that...
Blessings!
