On the wrong side of the track

John chapter four is the story of Jesus and the woman at the well. She was from Samaria, or for us today that could be some area! No matter who she was or where she was from, she needed Jesus. Oh, she didn't realize it yet, but she soon would. Jesus asked her to get Him a drink of water, but what He was actually doing was offering her some Living Water. Jesus was talking about His Holy Spirit that lives inside believers and results in eternal life. This woman certainly needed some living water. For far too long she had been drinking from the broken well of her own life.

She lived on the wrong side of the tracks, had been rejected by five husbands, and was probably on the verge of giving up altogether. Can you relate to her? In Jeremiah 2:13 God cries out to His people, "You have committed two evils: You have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, to dig your own wells, broken wells that can hold no water." Yep, I can relate to this. How many times have I turned from the blessings of God and chased my own dreams - empty, broken wells? Why would I do that? Just like the woman at the well, I feel rejected, and worthless. I try to find meaning and purpose in this earthly life. I become too short-sighted to see the purposes and plans of God. Oh that we would all drink Living Water and truly live. God be with you all...

I think that the lady in John 4 had a Divine Appointment with Jesus that was orchestrated by the Holy Spirit.

We have to remember that Jesus walked the earth as both God and man. That's why He went up on mountainsides and to other deserted places to pray. I believe that Jesus knew all that stuff about her before she came along because that information had been given to Him by the Holy Spirit

Why the Divine Appointment? What was so special about her? I think that the seed of faith had been planted in her when she was a practicing Jew and God had decided that it was at that time and at that place that her faith was to begin to sprout and bear fruit.

There's nothing accidental about that meeting. The Father knew she was searching for Him in her heart of hearts and He was rewarding that search. Scripture says (Heb 11:6), "Without faith, it is impossible to please God. For whoever would find God must first believe that He exists and that He rewards those who search for Him diligently."
