'David inquired again of God ...' 1 Chronicles 14:14
The Chief of the entire British Army held the phone to his ear. The enemy were closing in. Bombs blitzed the capital. Fighter jets tore through the sky. The white cliffs of Dover were surrounded by battleships. And still the Prime Minister refused to retaliate in battle. 'Prime Minister, sir, this is a red alert. If we don't fight back now; the British Isles will be enemy occupied territory. For heaven's sake, when do you want us to issue military orders?' the head of the army bawled into the phone. 'Not yet' a cool-headed PM replied. 'Then when?' The PM sipped from his china cup and answered, 'When you hear the sound of leaves rustling in the treetops - then you will know we are in danger. Then and only then, fire up the fighter jet engines!' It's a bit of a tall tale!
Yet David does almost this to a tee in 1 Chronicles 14. So attuned to God is this Philistine slayer that he is willing to ignore all danger signs in favour of an odd piece of strategy, seemingly dreamed up through prayer. David gets his victory because he will not make a move without first consulting God. David waited upon a sound. He knew the voice of God so well he could recognise it in the movement of mulberry bushes. David put faith over logic. He knew God would not fail him - the question is would he fail God? Bottom line: When God speaks (compare it with the Bible to check it sounds like Him!), no matter how bizarre the request, follow it through.
What now? Read the entire story in 1 Chronicles 14.
