SECRET SPACES

'People did whatever they felt like doing' Judges 17:6

We all need time to be alone - a safe place to just reflect and be ourselves. But we need to be careful that our 'me time' doesn't develop into 'secret space' time where we start doing things that we don't speak about to anyone. When we have no one to question our actions, we're in danger of becoming a law unto ourselves.

The people in the book of Judges did that - just 'whatever they felt like doing.' And they ended up in over their heads in trouble. The more we allow secret space time into our lives the more we open ourselves up to things that will damage and hold us back. Eating disorders, self-harming and porn addiction are a just a few of the harmful things that begin in secret spaces.

There is within us a natural tendency to sin, so we are called to 'walk in the light' where our motives and actions are transparent and we are encouraged to avoid sin (1 John 1:7).

You don't need to go announcing to the world every last detail of your life. But you do need at least one person; who you are accountable to, someone mature, who knows God's Word, will keep your confidence, and love you enough to be honest with you, someone who you will be open and honest with and listen to.
