'Yeah, she's not in a good place with God at the moment... I can tell by the way she worships.' 'She's too much. It's as if she's saying 'Look at me going crazy for the Lord', when behind closed doors she's a total tart.' 'I bet she was sleeping with him, don't you? Maybe that's why they broke up, 'cos he changed his mind.'
When we judge, we can jump to all kinds of conclusions that can not only be just plain wrong, but potentially really harmful. Judging and gossiping can often go hand in hand, making a juicy but toxic cocktail that can have all sorts of bad consequences.
The Bible says, 'It's God we are answerable to-all the way from life to death and everything in between-not each other ... So where does that leave you when you criticize a brother? And where does that leave you when you condescend to a sister? I'd say it leaves you looking pretty silly-or worse.
Eventually, we're all going to end up kneeling side by side in the place of judgment, facing God. Your critical and condescending ways aren't going to improve your position there one bit' (Rom. 14:9-11 TM).
What now? Make it a habit of exchanging words of judgment for encouragement. Instead, you should 'help others with encouraging words; don't drag them down by finding fault' (Rom. 14:19 TM).
