'THEIR NETS BEGAN TO BREAK.' LUKE 5:6
You know when your mum just can't see it? In your head you're going to be the next Leona Lewis, and your Mum gives you that 'you've got to be joking' look, saying something like, 'that's nice dear, but what about something to fall back on, have you considered shelf-stacking?' She doesn't realise she's in the presence of a future megastar, does she? Well, it was definitely that way with Peter in Luke 5.
Peter gave Jesus the 'You've got to be joking' glance, after fishing all night without so much as a minnow. See, Jesus had told Peter, 'Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets' (Luke 5:4). Peter, after explaining he'd have more luck in the Manchester Ship Canal (okay, maybe they weren't his exact words!), went along with it. Right up until this point Peter had no way of knowing if Jesus was just the latest wannabee prophet dude trying to sound important or if He was the real deal.
He just hadn't cottoned on that he was in the presence of the real Living God. Then it happened; the biggest catch of his life and he knew! Life would never be the same again. Have you realised yet? 24/7 you're in the presence of the Living God. Or are you waiting for something to happen? If so, what's Jesus asking you to do? What will your response be?
